Nissa, Sage Animist

Commander Deck Help forum

I wasn't sure if this should go in the site threads or here, but since i'm making a deck with her, I went here.

How exactly do I make a deck with Nissa, Sage Animist  Flip as the commander, and still able to transform? If I used Nissa as the commander, she only transforms into a basic card back. Same if I use her alternate Nissa, Sage Animist  Flip. The only have I've seen is to put Nissa, Sage Animist  Flip in the actual deck then search and pull it out before each game.

Anyone know how to set it up right?

Yes, you can have Nissa, Sage Animist  Flip as your commander, if she is face up as a creature. You can flip her normally as a planeswalker. (or if you don't want to flip her you can return her to the command zone as a state based action.)

You have to have a legendary creature as your commander (with the exception of a very select few planeswalkers). So technically you can't have Nissa, Sage Animist  Flip as your commander. You can however use Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip as your commander. You have to play her as a creature and then flip her once she has hit the battlefield.

As per the commander rules, if your commander were to be put into exile, you MAY instead put it into te command zone. This doesn't mean you have to. You simply let her trigger resolve and exile her, bringing her stright back as Nissa, Sage Animist  Flip. But that's the only way you can do it.

You cannot have Nissa, Sage Animist  Flip as your commander because she is not a legendary creature. The only exceptions to this rule are the planeswalkers from Commander 2014 because it is in their text

You can, however, have Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip as your commander because she is a legendary creature. You would then need to meet the requirement (landfall with 6+ other lands) to flip her. If, in pw form, she was destroyed, exiled, etc., you would have the option of putting her back in your command zone but that would be as her original form, Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip.

Ok, I didn't phrase the question properly. I know how the rules for playing Commander go. What I'm saying is, when I play test a deck that has Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip as the commander, I CANNOT flip her to the planewalker form once shes out. The play tester shows just a normal everyday magic card back. Right now, I have to place both versions of the card in my deck and exile Nissa, Sage Animist  Flip so i can have access to that card.

And a side note: my play group has a house rule where we can use plainswalkers as commanders. But my question is how do i get the play tester to work with the transforming commanders without adding the backside card in additionally?
