New commander deck help

Commander Deck Help forum

So after taking a hiatus from commander (had to break apart my decks so I could move, good times) I've come to the realization that I want to build a new deck. There is an issue however:

I dunno what to build!

I have a few choices in mind, as I have the commanders, but I'm not sure which to use.

We have Invocation The Scarab God which I opened today, my slightly misprinted (faded text) waifu Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist, and of course, the Chinese foil Athreos, God of Passage that I somehow opened.

The plan is to go a very unconventional route with the decks, such as a prison-superfriends sorta deck, for mirri's build as an example. I'm used to aggressive decks, so I want to make more of a control type of deck.

So basically, who should I build and what should I do with said build? If you got other commanders in mind, let me know, I'm open to suggestions lol.

Hey, out of those three options The Scarab God is the strongest.

You can go a lot of different directions with Scarab: Dimir Control, Zombies tribal, Mill, Dimir Midrange goodstuff, etc. Of these suggested directions I think Midrange goodstuff with a reanimator strategy would be the most fun.

Which ever direction you choose to build will really depend on the budget you set for the deck. For instance a strategy with Zombies or Mill will be less expensive than Control or Midrange.

I have an Athreos, God of Passage EDH I love if you want to check it out, although I'm not sure how competitive you're looking to go or what you're budget is (mine may fall short in those categories). I will say that if you're looking for control I would agree with the above that The Scarab God provides you more versatility in what you can build and the kind of control you can include.

The Scarab God seems best on account of his flexibility. As multimedia said you can go in many different directions with him, and that also means if you aren't enjoying some aspect of his gameplay, you can shift strategies and stay viable, allowing you to enjoy the deck longer.

Of these I'd probably play a Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist hybrid pillowfort/voltron deck which would probably end up using an Enchantress shell to facilitate both ideas.

I've seen a lot of Athreos, God of Passage and The Scarab God decks recently being Vampire and Zombie tribal respectively.

Yeah, I would go with the Scarab God out of all of these. I built a deck out of it abusing zombies that let you mill yourself to eventually mill into a deadeye navigator, pallinchron, and Oona to win the game. Buried Alive is in insta-win unless somebody has graveyard hate, and with a bunch of tutors in the deck, you can get super cheeky wins at like 5 life. Also, does anyone know how to make links so that people can see what card you're talking about?
