two questions.I built a roon deck and I wanna make it a lockout/lockdown enchantment type. What are the most important cards?

Also, I wanna build my wife a very solid aggro deck. What commander and staples arerecommend?

My limit so far is around $500 tix or so And I have a full boom deck to start. Will link later

If you want aggro, Kaalia of the Vast is pretty great, but somewhat expensive depending on the kinds of creatures you put in. If you're interested, you can take a look at my Kaalia deck (Kaalia of the Giant Friends).

Elf tribal is also viable with Ezuri, Renegade Leader or some other elf with a buff ability as commander, and they tend to be cheaper because the mana base isn't as expensive.

I know nothing about lockdown/stall decks so I can't help you with Roon, my apologies.

Roon really isn't all that suited for mana denial or lockdown. In bant colors, you have access to Derevi, Empyrial Tactician, a pretty standout commander. If you want to play ETB effects and gravitated to Roon for that reason, you're better off with Brago, King Eternal.

Lockdown and mana denial are frequently executed using effects that prevent untap. Think Back to Basics, Winter Orb, Stasis, etc. run alongside effects that can untap your permanents. Think Derevi's ability, Brago untapping all your mana rocks, or Teferi, Temporal Archmage using his -1. If you're strapped on cash, invest in the core of the denial deck first. It's important that this engine works. Then think about what you'll be doing with the rest of your 99 cards.

As far as your wife's deck goes, think about the colors she likes and the style of play she prefers. Report back to us on that. It's really hard to recommend generals when we know very little about her.

Any colorsShe is newer and played g/w on paper but as long as she is turning dude sideways she is having fun. I prefer no more than three colors. Two would be best

If you need help making a deck from scratch for her, I can help with that. But if you are just wanting a solid aggro deck, I recommend the Green 2014 Commander deck. It has cards like Rampaging Baloths and Overwhelming Stampede

A lot of new players like Gisela, Blade of Goldnight. She's fairly straightforward and provides a big way to end games. She's also flavorful and her artwork is gorgeous.

Red/White angels are bada**. I just traded away Aurelia, the Warleader. I didn't have enough red/white cards for it to be effective

I mainly need commander ideas. I know the meta-on MTGo Is Way different not to mention I haven't touched paper magic in over a year. I really liked roon and want to stick with him. For her something like angels would be neat so it had a team I think she would like that. Just trying to find the best colors or I should say the most effectiveness for the amount of tickets I'll spend

Look, building on budget is always possible. You shouldn't let economics dictate what you play. In the end, what's more important is that you two enjoy the game. Pick the generals you want to play, then build to suit your financial capabilities.

Troof

She liked sigarda Angels when I built it

I would probably want some aggro variant of it. For me I just need staples for roon decks or thinks that synergism well

For Roon, most people like to use efficient creatures with ETBs. Think Avenger of Zendikar, Coiling Oracle, Eternal Witness, Wood Elves, Fierce Empath, Glen Elendra Archmage, Solemn Simulacrum, Venser, Shaper Savant, Prophet of Kruphix, Sun Titan, Prime Speaker Zegana, Angel of Serenity, etc. Just bodies that do something the moment you cast them. Then you just flicker them for value. Thragtusk is pretty much the MVP of the deck. Roon's bounce house of value.

If you decide to go the mana denial route, I figure you'll want to use Roon's ability primarily as a way of protecting your creatures.

  • An efficient suite of countermagic
  • A collection of tap effects
  • Ways to efficiently keep your permanents tapped
  • High-impact beaters (preferably evasive)
  • Ramp

Alternatively, you can end games with combos such as Deadeye Navigator+Palinchron+ pretty much whatever.
