Narset - Haste Suggestions

Commander Deck Help forum

So I'm toying around with different EDH decks and I built a creatureless Narset deck. I wanted to make a Superfriends deck so this is what I came up with. It seems like it'll be fun (haven't actually playtested it yet) but I can see Narset being a HUGE target, so I'd like to be consistently able to swing with her when she comes out, so I'm looking for ideas on haste.

I left out Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots as she already has hexproof, so I'm looking for something else. Please, let me know what you would take out to include your suggestions.

Here is the decklist...Hey check out my deck Narset and Friends

Use greaves and boots anyways. Hall of the Bandit Lord gives haste, and so does Expedite and Racecourse Fury. Running the greaves and boots is a must in a commander-matters is a must, even when the commander has built in protection. They are cheap and can have extra mileage if Narset gets somehow removed.

BreadManDan,
I like Fervor, and Hammer of Purphoros is pretty good too ... but then you probably don't need much of an anthem :-)

Looks like you've already got Vedalken Orrery, but you could add Winding Canyons for redundancy.

Ashling's Perogative, Fervor, Hammer of Purphoros, and Mass Hysteria are all good, cheap enchantments that can be played ahead of time.

Akroma's Memorial could be interesting, too.

Expedite is good.

Sorry, but I thought of a couple more: Act of Treason and Lose Calm. I like the fact they can perform double-duty.

The best haste enablers for Narset are listed as follows:

  1. Generator Servant. In addition to granting haste with no downside, he always ramps Narset out as much as two turns faster. He's the key card that enables Turn 2 Narset wins. He alone makes creature Narset stronger than Proteus Staff Narset.

  2. Hall of the Bandit Lord. A haste enabler that doubles as a land (which is almost impossible to interact with in the early game).

  3. Need for Speed. The drawback is irrelevant if you're playing Narset right. She doesn't require mana to win once on the field, so the loss of a single land is irrelevant approximately 80% of the time.

  4. Mass Hysteria. The downside is a bit larger than NfS's, because it theoretically enables a few slighter decks like Zur the Enchanter. This is usually where I draw the cutoff line for haste enablers. Everything above it is fine, but this card rarely makes it out of the maybeboard.

No other haste enabler yet printed is really worth running. Needless to say Lightning Greaves is terrible, because it stops you from targeting Narset with any other effects. Swiftfoot Boots are obviously far too slow. They require additional mana on top of Narset's massive 6-mana cost. Most other haste enables suffer from the same problem: They add to the total mana required the turn Narset hits field, making them useless.

Uncanny Speed and Hammerhand cheap mana cost haste cards. Both give some counters as well. There's one in Theros as well but I can't remember its name at the current time. I'll post it if I remember it's name. d&g85

It's called Messenger's Speed. d&g85

Honestly...I think the best one is Hall of the Bandit Lord and the next best would probably be Need for Speed.

Try Flamekin Village and Slayers' stronghold too. They're great for haste without compromising slots.
