So im looking for a commander for my local EDH league. My original deck was deemed too mean and Im ok with that. My next general needs to have some spunk to him. it needs to be more than just an ability sitting there helping me win. Here is what im looking for:

Multiple colors

Decent body or be effective at making their own body bigger

Have a relevant ability for commander.

Tell me what you think nerds! :P

Rafiq of the Many, Zur the Enchanter, or Uril, the Miststalker are all great for making the General into a lethal cannon.

Kaalia of the Vast, Mayael the Anima, and Animar, Soul of Elements have very powerful EDH abilities, though they receive a tonne of flak because of this.

Sen Triplets, Angus Mackenzie, and Damia, Sage of Stone have a great abilities and colours for control shells.

Doran, the Siege Tower, Hazezon Tamar, and Phelddagrif have some random and interesting abilities, that can lead to some interesting deck construction ideas.

How about playing Intet, the Dreamer? He's a pretty unusual general, nobody's gonna hate on you for playing him, and he can play this weird battlecruisery pseudo-combo deck with stuff like Mystical Tutor into Time Stretch. And if that's too mean, you can just toss in some light top-deck management alongside Temur good stuff. This strategy can easily be adjusted based off of power level and budget. Not to mention that you still get to do all kinds of fun blue things.

Maelstrom Wanderer fits those conditions. However, he's often considered broken. Xenagos, God of Revels is pretty spunky. His ability is great and he can boost himself. Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest has a unique and cool ability. He gets big, and he's interesting to play with. Those are my 3 cents on the matter.

Scratch that, he can't boost himself. But he's indestructible so yeah.

I've been really enjoying Omnath, Locus of Rage. He's the kind of deck where you can just build up an unstoppable force, and if you get the first few elementals out fast enough, no one will want to mess with you for fear of your lightning bolts.

One of the projects I have been working on recently is Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury dragon tribal. Maybe that could be the general for you.

It sounds like you were playing Shattergang Brothers and now need to play Kresh the Bloodbraided or Prossh, Skyraider of Kher.

I've liked Jenara, Asura of War at the helm of a voltron deck that uses a lot of counter manipulation. She has a very low cost for her stats. I've had a lot of fun with her; Bant is a very powerful color combination that can be played in many different ways. My deck with her is fairly fiddly; you could probably support her with all of kinds of control tools in those colors.

I also have Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest, who is very different from the other Jeskai commanders I've seen. He's also very aggro but he lends himself to slightly odd decks. Mine is very instant/sorcery focused but I think an aura-focused incarnation would be more competitive.

Both of these are very Voltron-ish decks though that give you a "single point of failure" though (in my experience) that might make them more challenging to use competitively.

Want a top tier Commander for this league (despite the fact that your prior deck was considered too mean)? Use Animar, Soul of Elements. Simple to build and has options.

Want some Voltron that's stupidly powerful but capable of killing an entire table in one whole turn? Uril, the Miststalker. I run an Enchantress build of him, but even without that, Aggravated Assault combined with Nature's Will, Bear Umbra, and Sword of Feast and Famine gives you a way to kill a whole table in one turn (outside of the traditional Waves of Aggression, Relentless Assault, etc.). Hell, you can cast Plea for Guidance to get Assault + another, then cast them both and win on that turn.

Don't think Voltron is good enough? Animar, Soul of Elements, Arcum Dagsson, Derevi, Empyrial Tactician, and Brago, King Eternal are pretty solid at running tables with minimal effort. Don't want to be too oppressive? Then you still have options to be effective without the extremely oppressive cards that attack mana bases (or, well, I guess don't run all of them, like Land Equilibrium t2 off of Mana Crypt, Talisman of Dominance and one Island probably doesn't need to happen, lol).
