Mono-Blue or Mono-Green Generals

Commander Deck Help forum

I only have a handful of EDH decks, among them Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis, Daretti, Scrap Savant, Heliod, God of the Sun, Riku of Two Reflections, and Yahenni, Undying Partisan. After looking for a new EDH deck to obsess myself with and spend way too much money on, I decided I should finish the color wheel with mono colors. So far I have Heliod as a mono-, Yahenni as a mono-, and Daretti as mono-, so I need a mono- and mono- deck to round it out. I'm looking for opinions on the most interesting, fun, or challenging to build generals in mono- or mono-, so thanks for any advice or help or anything!

Talrand, Sky Summoner has been my personal favorite as it can also be made cheaply (although my my Tisk Tisk Talrand is not cheap). Just load him up with counterspells, draw spells, and play politics.

If you want a different approach Thassa, God of the Sea can be mono blue aggro unblockable. Use Thassa to scry for what you need. Indestructible enchantments are hard to get rid of. Furthermore, commander damage can be an option as you can make Thassa unblockable. Add a couple swords and have a fun time.

I play Silvos, Rogue Elemental and it's quite successful. Even the players who know the deck always underestimate the commander because he is just a big trampler. The deck is packed with global and targeted artifact hate though, from Null Rod to Titania's Song and thus it hurts most of the top decks (including my own more expensive ones) a lot.

Tromokratis for an awesome Voltron .... pseudo hexproof with decent evasion with the countless tap creature spells out there....play defense/control and then Give that big big body double strike with and +2 attack power with various equipments and you can start one shoting opponents.

I've run more mono green decks than you can shake a stick at. Currently I am running Selvala, Heart of the Wilds as a fatty beats deck and really enjoying it but it is very generic green.

My favorite non-traditional mono green was Oviya Pashiri, Sage Lifecrafter. A mono green artifact deck is not something people expect to see and it had a surprising amount of synergy with cards like Fangren Marauder or Scrapheap. Green can do the token thing pretty well (Doubling Season, Parallel Lives, etc.) and when you pair that with primarily artifact creature tokens (Hangarback Walker, Myr Battlesphere, Maul Splicer etc.) a lot can be done with seemingly very little.

I scrapped the deck because I needed too many pieces to build Breya, but here was what I was running before. Just typing this makes me want to rebuild it :)

So one that I rarely see played is Jolrael, Empress of Beasts. It's not an easy build, but I have many times seen it one-shot the table. Or pull off an easy Epic Struggle victory. Definitely a fun build to make.

I love my Sakashima the Impostor deck, you copy the best parts of everyone else's deck. Never play the same game twice, utilize your opponents win cons, and always match the power level of the table!

Not sure for blue, but in green, Thrun, the Last Troll or Omnath, Locus of Mana seems great.

Yeva, Nature's Herald makes for a fun general allows you to play like a blue deck with all the strengths of green, ramp, non creature hate, and the like. Acidic Slime becomes an even better card, along with eternal witness, rec sage, and skull winder its a fun way to play green.

My favorite Mono Blue EDH has to be Kaho, Minamo Historian Control. It can be incredibly oppressive in 1 v 1 and being able to set up Counter Spells with ease is always great. After that... I would say Azami, Lady of Scrolls Wizard Tribal EDH. The deck can draw out as a win-con, which always makes me giggle.
