Mardu Marchesa in EDH

Commander Deck Help forum

Since it was spoiled, I've fallen in love with Queen Marchesa, and want to make a commander deck based around it. However, as I am new to the format, creating a good deck is hard. Should Marchesa be control, midrange, aggro or tokens?

Could someone help me create a Marchesa deck? My budget is around 50 (excluding lands).

The monarch ability seems cool, and adding in super flavourful cards like Knights of the Black Rose sounds great!

Here is the deck so far:

For this version of Marchesa, the answer I would give would be Voltron. Throw some swords of her and let her go to town. Her built-in Haste is very good and the Deathtouch makes people not want to block, even if they can when you have swords. Unfortunately, most of the better cards for this style of deck (like the swords and Stoneforge Mystic are outside of your realistic budget).

This all of that being said, I would probably go for some control and just straight value.

Once the full set is spoiled, I think I am going to brew something up for her as well. I've been waiting for a fun (to me) Mardu commander!

I don't know, man. For me, Marchesa builds naturally into a stax deck. The added benefit of her monarch ability and her ability to make tokens helps mitigate the equilateral stax engines like Necrogen Mists and Contamination.

Here's the deck I've been kicking around.

Maybe I'm missing something here but her token generation ability requires an opponent to be the Monarch. So is there a way to make an opponent the Monarch or does it completely rely on your opponent having cards that make them the Monarch?

Onion_duck as far as spoilers have gone, you can only make yourself the monarch.

Her ability is basically get cards or get tokens. The monarch emblem is passed around to whomever damages the monarch via combat damage.

My deck Marchesa's come at me bro (Suggestions please) is intended to manipulate the combat step, this means you can become monarch when you want cards and not when you want tokens. It's still under construction since the whole set isn't revealed but it might be worth looking into.
