Looking to get back into Paper EDH

Hey all.
So I've been taking a short break from mtg lately, only playing online from time to time, and wanna get back in the swing of things.
Currently I'm wanting to throw a mono white deck together for commander night Thursday, and I'm stuck between using Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Eight-and-a-Half-Tails. We're a tier two meta (atleast last time I was there which was a few months ago),and we play games with 4 or 5 players.
I love the idea of mono-white control so Thalia might be the obvious choice, but I also don't want to get targeted, and with the storm//combo decks in my meta, I feel like I'd be the first to get gunned down.
Any thoughts? I know mono white isn't the best, but honestly I keep coming back to it. It's my first color in magic and overall my favorite.

I just discovered Kytheon, Hero of Akros Flip the other day as a good commander for a mono-white deck. Its personal defense - and low cost get it on the board quickly. After it transforms (I kept it back as a blocker in the first couple of turns) it will be able to help other creatures and still do commander damage. It isn't massive, but the extra protection may just keep your other creatures alive and it's cheap to get it back from the command zone. But, if you can, get your hands on Thalia, Heretic Cathar. People will hate you for it at first, but if you follow it up with a mild sedative like Authority of the Consuls and Blind Obedience, they'll hate you until you come up with a new deck...

With Eight-and-a-half tails, I built a Samurai tribal deck, essentially a Kamigawa deck. Plenty of control with the wrecking power of Bushido. It's been sold off since its creation, but it was a fairly smooth deck. Could be something to consider.

If you are going mono white and are still looking for some commanders here are a few that might help just to get back into paper magic. Linvala, Keeper of Silence Thalia, Heretic Cathar Sram, Senior Edificer Kemba, Kha Regent

I find people really underestimate Eight-and-a-Half-Tails. That ability to give protection and change the color of things to white is ridiculous. He can be a little rough on mana since you only have white but removal and blocking him simply don't work. Makes some fun interactions with stuff like Circle of Protection: White too.
