Looking for the best commander

Commander Deck Help forum

I am building a green and white token deck and am looking to see what some of you think the best commander would be to run

Just going off of Green, White, and tokens I'd say Trostani, Selesnya's Voice lends itself best to the token theme. Rhys the Redeemed would also have a case, as would Emmara Tandris though she's super pricey to drop.

Rhys the Redeemed is pretty damn baller - there are so many ways to go with the deck. You can do tokens, you can do elves, you can do combo shenanigans, and in my experience, he's a lot scarier of a Commander to face than Trostani. He also doesn't cost .

The thing that I have run into with tokens in multiplayer is that it tends to be an obvious strategy and it tends to attract removal/hate and be sensitive to board wipes.

Tokens seem to run better in 1v1 where a faster, earlier, explosive and aggressive approach to tokens is probably most strategic than an overwhelming approach.

Maybe Anafenza, the Foremost would be a good aggro 1v1 tokens commander.

If you are going multiplayer, having alternate things to use the tokens for, ways to punish board wipes, anthems, sources of evasion, and things like that let you sneak tokens in on the opponent's turn seem to help, but I haven't had a ton of luck with it in a competitive sense to be honest.

It can still be fun to build a massive army and against similar styled decks like tribal decks it can be fun. I have kept one deck like that around that I keep tweaking but while it does things and creates threats in games, it doesn't win much and I am starting to suspect that this is just a thing with tokens in edh - it could just be a personal weakness of mine ... I'm still exploring it all - it's one of my works in progress. I run Ghave, Guru of Spores for it right now.

Are you married to strict GW? Marath, Will of the Wild is in Naya and is a great token commander. Red gives you access to Mana Echoes which can really make some turns insanely explosive. Here's my list if you'd like to get some ideas: Marath, Commander of Peasants

Sigarda has nothing that a token deck would ever want. She's expensive as hell and adds nothing to your token pooping. Sacrificing effects are nothing that matter to a token deck (Effects like that can hose Voltron and Xenagos, but not tokens) and... yeah. No, Sigarda is nice for Voltron, but certainly not for tokens.

Thank you for all the suggestions so far. Right now I am leaning towards Rhys the Redeemed so I'm gonna start tweeting with that first and see where it gets me lol. All great suggestions though thank you

Rhys is far and away the best token commander. Tokens decks want one thing - to make as many tokens as possible. No other commander can come close to Rhys's power in that department.

Gahiji, Honored One makes everyone 3/1's for aggroish playing.

Rhys the Redeemed is easily the best token commander. My friend's Rhys deck is bonkers and he can easily combo off to make infinite elf tokens with infinite power and infinite toughness lol.
