Looking for suggestions on a commander to play

Commander Deck Help forum

Hello! I play a lot of EDH but I usually stick to the Mono-white, boros, or red/black. I have been looking into commanders for a Blue/Black/X deck X being red or just sticking to Blue/Black. I am just looking for some suggestions on commanders to play whether they are Blue/Black/Red or Blue/Black or Blue/Black/White. Tier doesn't matter to me much right now, just a fun & solid commander in those colors :) Not a super budget deck also just looking to expand into more colors really with a fun commander. Shoot me some commander suggestions! All suggestions appreciated

Sygg, River Cutthroat is one of my favorite decks, and Sharuum the Hegemon, Oloro, Ageless Ascetic, Nekusar, the Mindrazer are all fun to play (Sharuum less so for your opponents).

If you're looking to combo, Oona, Queen of the Fae and Sharuum the Hegemon are decent, fairly powerful options.

If you're looking to play the long control game, Dralnu, Lich Lord can be fun.

Lazav, Dimir Mastermind is a fairly popular option in Dimir, so you'd have a lot of sources from which to gain inspiration.

Going into UBx, Sidisi, Brood Tyrant can be anything from a combo deck to a recursion-driven beatdown deck, so that may be something you're interested in.

Dimir: Wrexial, the Risen Deep or Vela the Night-Clad are interesting to build around

Esper has a lot of good options. I'd vote Sen Triplets there.

Grixis: Marchesa, the Black Rose?

You have a lot of options!

Any particular archetype? Choose any number from the following list:

Infinite Blink/Reanimation
Infinite Mana Dump
Pillow Fort
Infinite Mill
Chaos
Taxes
Storm
Group Hug/Donate/Forcefeed
Vorthos/Lore
Infect
Spellslinger
Flicker/Blink
Goodstuff
Draw Go Control
Lifegain
Mill
Aura Theme
Non-Token Aggro
Tribal
Toolbox/Hatebears
Gimmick/Synergy
Graveyard Recursion
Voltron
Fattie Reanimation
Enchantress
Tap & Untap Shenanigans
+1/+1 Counter Shenanigans
Tokens
Nonland Removal Control
Battlecruiser/Show and Tell
Aikido/Copy & Steal
Alternate Win Condition
Superfriends
Discard Control
Self-Mill/Dredge
Equipment Theme
Artifact Theme
Group Slug
-1/-1 Counter Shenanigans
Landfall/Scapeshift
Infinite Tokens
Mana Denial (Stax/MLD)

If you don't know what I mean by any of them, just google it with "mtg" and you should find a good definition. But, just let me know any of those you like, and I'll get a couple of ideas for you.

And you want Dimir, Grixis, or Esper?

I second the earlier suggestion of Nekusar, the Mindrazer.

The Grixis commanders I have experience playing with are:

Thraximundar: good, but more recent cards have made him less OP than he used to be.Nekusar, the Mindrazer: great, but his gameplay is a bit repetitive (force feed).Marchesa, the Black Rose: great, but again, she cuts a pretty straight line through the game (fill the board, wipe the board).

Either Marchesa or Nekusar are fair choices, but I expect you'll get board of them in a year or two, depending on how much you play them.

In the end, I'd suggest Vial Smasher the Fierce paired with one of the other new partners like Silas Renn, Seeker Adept or Ludevic, Necro-Alchemist that piques your interest. I think that leaves you with more routes to victory, keeping game play fresh and your investment well worth it long term.

i think Sedris, the Traitor King is pretty fun to play. He's interesting, lets you play some of the weird EDH cards like Sundial of the Infinite and can actually be built pretty cheaply, then upgraded with stuff like Entomb or some eldrazi once you play with him a few times. That's my vote.

In esper, I second Sen Triplets

For a Dimir deck, if you like mill, I think Phenax, God of Deception is probably the strongest. Otherwise, I second Wrexial, the Risen Deep (although he's kinda a mill deck too).

I had Sygg, River Cutthroat as my commander. It was a little complicated to trigger him often. And everyone were killing him right away to prevent me from drawing... Also casting Sygg 4 times is not worth it...He too weak to survive on a big, late game board, full of creatures. The deck ended "goodstuff" with rare interaction with my commander...

Tried Oona, Queen of the Fae and eventually I switched to Dragonlord Silumgar. He is really fun and always useful. You can build him "goodstuff", control, stax, or a steal/copy themed deck. Grab the best things in play and kill your opponents with their own cards. :D
