Looking for Experienced EDHers with great card knowledge

I want to try an experiment to free up funds for future decks. Can I cut expensive cards by finding functional replacements or by spreading the functionality over multiple cards? Need the keen eyes of some people that can think of good functional replacements or equivalents.

Ideas so far:
Colossus of Akros + Elixir of Immortality for Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre. Indestructible creature + recycleable graveyard shuffling.
Steel Hellkite for Batterskull. Not sure we need the lifegain & adds permanent removal.
Harsh Mentor for Stranglehold. Not sure there is a functional Stranglehold replacement.
Universal Solvent for All Is Dust. Not a wrath, but Nev's disk ant Spine of Ish Shah hit everything else the creature wraths don't. Loses the ability to hit indestructible stuff.
Worn Powerstone for Thran Dynamo. Functionally worse.
arena of ancients for War's Toll. A different slowing effect.
Mystifying Maze for Maze of Ith
geier's reach sanitarium for Mikokoro, Center of the Sea.
Library of Leng for Anvil of Bogardan. Not sure we need the anvil. We want cards in hand, not necessarily card draws.
Anybody got any other ideas?

Perilous Vault is a much better option than Universal Solvent.
Basalt Monolith works if you want as much mana as Thran Dynamo makes.
Spellbook works to give you no max hand size, as does Thought Vessel.

If you're looking to change out cards in your Maybeboard, you could replace Spinal Villain with Jaya Ballard, Task Mage. It'll gain you some functionality at the cost of a little discard.
Nothing else was glaringly obvious. A lot of these cards are expensive because they're the only way to do something in their color (or lack thereof).

Putting in Burnished Hart for Solemn Simulacrum would save $4.
Replacing Batterskull with Akroma's Memorial saves another $4, costs you the +4/+4 and lifelink, but gains other abilities and hits all your creatures. Alternately, you could place Gauntlet of Power in this slot and still save a couple bucks while eliminating your need for Thran Dynamo.

For anvil, you could add Geier Reach Sanitarium or Otherworld Atlas
