Isochron Scepter

Commander Deck Help forum

How many 2 drop instances would an EDH deck need to make Isochron Scepter worth running? I have 5, one of which is an Enlightened Tudor. The opportunity to use that combo never comes up. I'm looking for a slot and I'm considering cutting the Scepter. Thanks for your support.

I'd say a lot. No less than 10, to gaurantee you have a a spell to imprint when you play it.

put Vampiric Tutor on a stick. And watch the chaos and panic unfolds.

It depends if you're using it as a win condition or just for value. As a value piece, like others, I would say at least 10. But if you're running Dramatic Reversal and the primary function of the sceptre is to combo, then you can run a much lower count.

It just comes down to how you've built the deck and how you intend on piloting it.

Thanks enpc. Great card btw. I may put that in my mono blue Teferi deck that runs the Scepter. I have plenty of 2 drops in that deck. -keith

No problem. I'm guessing that the question is regardng your Oloro, Ageless Ascetic deck? if so, the answer is that it is not worth a slot there. You don't have enough instants and I personally wouldn't pout any of them on an Scepter. One of the biggest problems with putting tutors, but especially top deck tutors on scepter is that 1) you end up paying 4 mana by the time you've played scepter and then copied it, and B) generally a tutor stick will draw a lot of hate/just get removed.

I have an EDH deck that runs the Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal combo: Triton Weaver. It also runs green and is missing a few cards I need for it long term (Enlightened Tutor and one or two other friends) however it might give you a bit more of an idea as the kind of package that you want to take advantage of Scepter with (as the deck runs multiple win conditions).

Thanks enpc for your drawn out explanation! Will give it a look to understand. I'm also having the same thought about Amulet of Vigor with only 10 "enters the battlefield tapped" lands.
