Is infect a thing?

Commander Deck Help forum

I made this Golgari EoB deck, and I am trying to figure out if I need more infect to win, or if it's just not a good enough win con to build around. Any thoughts?

Infect isn't really a thing in EDH. There's more efficient ways of going about playing the game. Look up a few Meren decks here on TO to get a better idea of what she's like.

I played a guy recently that ran a lot of exalted, proliferate, and infect tricks, but it was clunky and slow against my Jhoira deck. It's a cool idea, but took a long time to setup.

The only infect engine I like in EDH is Blightsteel Colossus but only use that as a big scary creature in Jhoira or as a power drop in Daretti. Usually when he is out, a target is placed on your head.

Yeah. You generate a lot of value from just playing the game with Meren with recursion in general. Infect is entirely unnecessary.

Well, thanks! I did notice that right about the time I could do something, they had a decent defense and/or some board wipe. Ah well, it just seemed like something to try since life total doubled but not poison counters. I actually tried it mostly because I have Planeswalking with M15 WURBG that has poison has a possible win con due to being able to go infinite on proliferation, so I only need to get them the first counter.

for infect i usually just run a copy of Triumph of the Hordes for a random lethal infect kill/creature wither wipe in green.

proliferate is good for alot of other things, but casually ticking up poison while focusing on other things is fun aswell.

Infect is only really a viable as a backup win condition for Prossh, Mimeoplasm, Scion, and a few other black-splashed commanders that have psuedo-voltron as a subtheme. It's not very useful to Meren. You can try to force it by dumping a pile of infect creatures and effects intothe deck, but you're much better off dropping infec t entirely.

My science teacher (he runs a mtg club) used to have an unlockable infect deck that he said was really good. He dismantled it though...

I play Ezuri, Claw of Progress with Blighted Agent and Inkmoth Nexus, but that's about the only time I think infect really works.

Well, tbh, Triumph of the Hordes is a pretty decent overrun for all your weenies in Edric, Spymaster of Trest.

I run a Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon deck that is consistently a threat, and it's not even tweaked to my satisfaction yet. It's essentially MBC with a voltron-esque commander.

Not good enough as a build around. Blightsteel Colossus, Triumph of the Hordes, and Grafted Exoskeleton can all do well as wincons depending on the decks.

Edit, skittles is good too like MindAblaze says, but don't make the whole deck infect.

I definitely think that the only use for infect is an instant win condition. Cards like Glistener Elf and Blighted Agent can only be in one deck, and that's Ezuri because he makes them into a win condition. Grafted Exoskeleton can be useful in voltron, and Blightsteel Colossus and Triumph of the Hordes are good cards in general. Skittles is debatable, but I agree with Digeridooda.
