Hidden commander??

Commander Deck Help forum

I want to make a deck that combines Meren of Clan Nel Toth, Ezuri, Claw of Progress, and potentially even Reyhan, Last of the Abzan, as commanders. This, obviously, cannot happen. But I think it is still possible. I would like to try using a commander that would not attract attention to me, and just being out the real commanders with a couple tutors. I could keep them around with cards like Attrition and Greater Good then recurring them to avoid exile and make sure kill spells weren't a problem. Just an idea I had that I want to try. I'd love some feedback on the idea of doing it, and what cards would make such a deck work well?

You could run Damia, Sage of Stone as the commander, use it to fill the hand, or maybe Sidisi, Brood Tyrant to fill the grave and give 2/2's for when Ezuri is out to get some experience counters, then run the ususal black tutors, Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, etc. Those colors work well with infect, could try to do something there, also add in some grave interaction stuff alongside Meren.

Thanks for the advice on who would work properly as a commander. I like both ideas, and I would probably test both out. They seem solid. I'm going to avoid infect because I like my friends, but I may use artifact creatures to make Silas Renn, Seeker Adept work for the theme as well. I plan to use a lot of recursion cards as well

If you watch the Command Zone on YouTube, Josh Lee Kwai talks about running the "real" Commanders in the deck itself and using other creatures as the Commander for additional colors.

Sadly I can't think of all of the videos, as he talks about it in multiple episodes.

I believe that watching the video on Hour of Devastation Gods would be good as they talk about running all three in the deck itself. That could give you some ideas on how to do it, and maybe give you some deck building tips as well.

Get a Vorosh, the Hunter. It'll allow you to play stupid, still do graveyard nonsense with counters and sometimes get you a bit of lethal commander in while looking totally derpy and not scary.

Nobody is scared of Bro-rosh! I mean, come on! XD

Dude that suggestion is 10/10. Definitely testing that idea! Probably not as useful as damia or sidisi for finding the pieces, but definitely gets flavor points for derp

If you're already considering Silas, then why not go with him and Reyhan and for-realzies play two of the commanders that are on your list. I think they're disjoined enough that you won't raise eyebrows until it's too late.

This sounds like a very interesting and complex deck: dredge/counters/maybe artifacts. Depending on how far you dive into the artifact subtheme, you may be interested in Glissa, the Traitor. Or you could go for the #1 boss of dredge/counters: The Mimeoplasm. Plus, don't forget his friend Skullbriar. And if you end up using this many legendary creatures in a dredge/counters/artifact deck, please consider Heroes' Podium.

I hope all that rambling was helpful.

Very helpful as well! Thank you! This deck is an ongoing project that won't be finished for a while most likely, because it is indeed complex. I'm generally looking for cards that help with recursion and counters. It seems like there will be a lot of legendary creatures indeed.
