Help me stop Yidris/Storm

Commander Deck Help forum

Posted on May 7, 2017, 12:20 p.m. by Malziebler

Ok. So I need to put together a deck specific to stopping Yidris. It doesn't need to be 100% accurate and or even cheap. I just need to stop this guy.

He's bringing down the Mojo of the play group. People Will not waste their time playing at all because tier 2 and tier 3 expensive decks can t do it how is for instance a pre-con deck gonna do it.

No price is to small no. Just have to fallow the ban list.

Please help me!

Nevermore or Declaration of Naught are a good place to start. Never let Yidris hit the 'field.

My first suggestion would be to just stop playing with him altogether until he agrees to stop playing that deck.

Aside from that, Grafdigger's Cage, Eidolon of Rhetoric, Stonehorn Dignitary, any instant speed removal, Time Stop effects, anything with split second Krosan Grip for example.

Maybe Kaervek the Merciless, Tsabo Tavoc or Ruric Thar, the Unbowed to really discourage the storm.

Instant speed tutors as well, to get some anti-storm creatures, like Planar Portal, Planar Bridge, Corpse Harvester (with Quicksilver Amulet, or Cryptic Gateway), or Chord of Calling.

I am hoping someone will see this and see that i really need a Deck list.

I have all the cards mentioned above. However i am the worst Blue player mostly because i feel it is a cheap shot and unnecessary. How ever this situation makes it very Necessary.

I am completely out of my Element Here being a mostly Red and Black player

The issue with Darksteel Mutation is that he will not play Yidris until he can win. Not fast enough.

Rule of Law could help. Maybe you could speed your deck up a little?

You're trying to make him sound like the bad guy but it sounds like he bought the yidris precon and just knows how to play better than you and your friends so, in response, you're shunning him and going out of your way just to make him feel bad. If he made an elitist deck to act like he's the best then that would be one thing but it sounds like you and your friends are just overreacting.

In most cases i would agree with you. However, I am trying to beat him fair and square. I just need help.

I could sit here complain and tell you many many things, but i am not going to.

if you can find me one Precon deck that ranges over 4K i would love to see it. better players dont bother me. Bullies Bother me.

Sometimes Bullies need to be shown that hey to can lose. Hence i am looking for help. so either help or shove off.

Add Arcane Laboratory, Curse of Exhaustion, Ethersworn Canonist and Eidolon of Rhetoric to the Rule of Law suggestion.

You could also tax him with stuff like Lodestone Golem and Thalia, Guardian of Thraben if they fit the strategy.

Sounds like Grand Arbiter Augustin IV is your best Commander choice, because you get access to all the control.

If this guy is your friend, maybe a friendly conversation could help? Something along the lines of "hey man, you made a sweet deck but have you noticed that it's so powerful that it's really hindering other players from having fun?" Since MtG is primarily a game, and FUN is the main goal of Magic, I would hope this Yidris player is reasonable enough to take out the storm cards or switch commanders or whatever.

Best of luck! Hope this helped.

Humility, but then everyone hates you too so that's a whole new can of worms to open.

In my dealings with yidris I would just kill it before it ever got to attack, but then again my deck is designed to keep commander central decks off their commanders. Swarm decks kill it and the mirror isn't easy either. That or I'd play Omnath and just get too far ahead for them to even do much, but that's just Omnath xD

yea, your best bet is to just make sure it A. Doesn't resolve, or B. Never gets past an upkeep. They won't like you for doing it, and they might just spite you for the entirety of the match, but if it keeps them from going off then that's your only option.

I was just about to suggest Grand Arbiter Augustin IV as a commander. It is a control commander, makes their storm harder, and in general (pun intended) is a real dick. It is a good way to say "I am putting a target on your face and gonna shoot you 'tween the eyes." When you play him, however, you will indeed put a big-ass target on your eyes. It doesn't sound like it's the pre-con. He says it's storm, So I'm leaning towards it being a Yidris heavy wombo-combo deck. Something like a Mizzix of the Izmagnus deck, or Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge. Explosive and deadly.

Not pre con.

And Wombo Combo doesn't even begin to compare to what this guy does.

I have played many Yidris Decks and this one just seems flawless.

I was thinking maybe give him a taste of his own medicine and do Sram storm with stax cards. Get them out fast and nasty with one drop creatures and low drop equipment for the in your face win con. But maybe that is the wrong answer.

Hi Malziebler, I think Isochron Scepter with Orim's Chant or everything you prefer can be of use or the most classic like Maze of Ith, Kor Haven, Opposition/Glare of Subdual. BUT....if you want to give him a taste of something similar to his deck Animar, Soul of Victorious is for you. It can be improved, simply what you see is the current list. Hope I was of some help.
