Help me find good cards for these two new C18 legends

Commander Deck Help forum

So right now I'm trying to decide between building Thantis the Warweaver

3BRG

Legendary Creature - Spider

Vigilance, reach

All creatures attack each combat if able.

Whenever a creature attacks you or planeswalker you control, put a +1/+1 counter on Thantis the Warweaver.

5/5

OR Xantcha, Sleeper Agent

Help me pool some cards that would be good with either of these guys to help me narrow down my choice.

For Thantis, obviously effects like Blood Reckoning, Marchesa's Decree, or even some cards like Hunted Horror or Hunted Troll seem good.

For Xantcha I could focus on assisting Xantcha in combat with things like Fists of the Demigod, or focus on creating ludicrous amounts of mana to drain its controller and draw tons of cards.

Anybody have any other good suggestions on individual cards or overall themes to build these two around? Any and all help is appreciated!

If it was my choice, I would go with Thantis, the warweaver. As green gives so much more options.

You have some good ideas already but a few more I think would be: Hunted Dragon, Avatar of Slaughter, No Mercy, Akroma's Memorial maybe, Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs, Ophiomancer, Grenzo, Havoc Raiser, then I think you could really draw some inspiration from Queen Marchesa decks by playing some monarch cards like Skyline Despot, then stuff like Grave Titan/Hanweir Garrison/Goblin Spymaster.

When I’m off work later I will see what else I can think of. But like I already said, look at some political decks such as I suggested like Queen Marchesa, then I’m sure there’s more that I’m just not thinking of right now.

I think Xantcha won't attack you when in opponent's hands? And you have to gain control of her to attack with her? ( can't attack its owner? )

I'm going to make a Thanthis one with double strike / first strike creatures! Fireshrieker / Inquisitor's Flail etc.

Struyk yes an opponent gains control of her when she enters and she can't attack you. So trying to find cards that can help her in combat or just play into her interesting form of politics

For Xantcha, Sleeper Agent run Hero's Blade to make her bigger before giving away control of her. Also run Heartstone since it makes all activated abilities of creatures cost less regardless if you control them or not. Also run Braid of Fire and Thran Turbine since you can use those to draw cards on your upkeep with free mana. Grave Betrayal practically makes her impossible to get rid of. Mana Cache is a way to give your opponents lots of mana to spend on your commander. You can also run cards like Oppression, Bottomless Pit, Necrogen Mists, Stronghold Rats to keep everyone's hands empty so that they'll want to draw more cards. Helm of Awakening is also good, since it makes all spells cost less leaving your opponents more mana to spend on her ability. Also since she has to attack you could also run Vampiric Link to gain life by enchanting your commander or you could just use Exquisite Blood to capitalize on the slugfest that is bound to ensue.

Why would you want to make her bigger?! You want to make her smaller as she can still block lol. Heartstone is awesome though :)

From a combat perspective the keyword you really want to give to Thantis & co. is lifelink. This is a much more useful rattlesnake than deathtouch. & if you have Hardened Scales in play you basically do not lose life from a group of 2/2's attacking (if you can block 1 creature). Then lifelink crackback... then vigilance pumped lifelink blocker... then groupslug effects bleeding everyone.

Also for Thantis, try Titania's Song probably the funnest artifact removal that also puts more fun chaos-fodder on the field.
