Help me decide my zombie tribal deck commander

Commander Deck Help forum

I'm looking to make a competitive zombie tribal deck. Who's got suggestions? Grimgrin, Corpse-Born Ghoulcaller Gisa Thraximundar Sidisi, Brood Tyrant Who makes for the most brutal zombie horde?

Arguments can be made for any Commander. My favorite of the choices though, is Sidisi, Brood Tyrant. She has an awesome ability in relevant colors for the ability. She's cheap to cast and has an okay body. You can pair her with a lot of graveyard stuff like Gravecrawler, Bloodghast, and Vengevine just to name a few. And don't get me started on what she can do with Loam and reshuffle effects.

I am personally a fan of Grimgrin. He gets bigger with each swing, making him a pretty viable commander.

However, if you're going the horde route, I would go with Sidisi. She is extra deadly with dredge, which have some of the best zombies along with it. Golgari Grave-Troll, Lotleth Troll, and not to mention you could use Grimgrin And Gisa in the same deck. The 3 color route can make for some deadly combos and all in all might be the best direction.

Zombie tribal really isn't all that competitive. Still, if you want to do it, go Sidisi. She provides you with additional value for doing what BUG wants to do anyways while giving you access to a great color identity.

Alright, Sidisi it is. Thanks guys. Maybe if I figure it out I'll post a deck list here later.

it might not be the smartest thing but i used to run thraxi as my commander in my zombie tribal but i switched to Nekusar, the Mindrazer cuz hes cheap to play has the colors i like for my zombie deck and i mean he gives draw power which is always nice in commmander. you can make stronger decks around him but like they said theres not a lot of super competative zombie commanders. Id say sidisi, nekursar, or thraxi are your best bets but i really like 3 color decks.

It all really depends on what colors you are doing and what is your theme

I'd say that Grimgrin, Corpse-Born is significantly better than Sidisi. First, he receives all the buffs your lords give. Second, he goes infinite with Gravecrawler and Rooftop Storm. Third, he is a very strong win condition. Fourth, he triggers Grave Pact by himself. Sidisi doesn't really have too much going for her outside of being in green, a color with very few notable zombies and basically only access to dredge. Which is a big thing, no doubt, but not as big as having a huge toolbox of a general.

If infinite combos are your thing, Grim Grim would be the better option. And with Sidisi, if you mill more than one creature, you still only get one zombie, if you add some self mill in there.

It's not difficult to turn Grimgrin into a 40/40 over a few turns if you build the deck around him, but it's also not competitive because competitive EDH is all about infinite combos and quick wins. Tasigur, the Golden Fang or Sidisi, Brood Tyrant would give you access to the colors that would be most competitive.

Sidisi, Brood Tyrant seems to have the most options available, and would be the best place to start.

You can never go wrong with the Mime-Time, Hermit Druid's best friend.

Okay guys. I dug up an old deck I was playing with when Khans first came out..This isn't what I started with wanting to do but darn it if Graveyard shenanigans aren't the best thing ever. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/06-12-14-the-eternal-cycle/ The brackets aren't working for some reason.

If you don't want to use the slug, you could do this method instead

]Name[)URL(

just turn the brackets and parentheses around

No problem. That way you can name it whatever you want instead of what the slug says.

There is something to be said for the synergy between Ghoulcaller Gisa and Gravecrawler, Grave Titan or basically anything that puts 2/2 Zombies into play which you could then double

Grimgrin will give you some good combo potential, since he is a good part of a few infinite combos. Another option is Sedris, the Traitor King if youre thinking of a general for the colors, but as a whole you want to make sure you at least have blue and black, blue is needed for Rooftop Storm, since if you dont have that, you may as well not run zombies :P

Here's a deck I made for Grimgrin that may help
