Having trouble deciding which to go with as a new commander...

Commander Deck Help forum

Just as the title states, I am wanting to build a combo | control deck and I just cant really decide which to go with.

Its either between

Oona, Queen of the Fae
Memnarch
Azami, Lady of Scrolls
Arcum Dagsson

I have also thought about Grand Arbiter Augustin IV or Sharuum the Hegemon

This deck will be catered more towards multiplayer rather than 1v1

Just any help, opinions or suggestions would be awesome. Also if there is any other commander that you think might go will as well, im open to ideas.

Thanks again!

These commanders are very different to begin with.
Augustin isn't a commander you want to play combo with usually. In , Brago, King Eternal is the commander to for Flicker-Combo.

Sharuum and Memnarch are commonly known as commanders that can be used for combo-control. I wouldn't consider Oona to be a combo commander. She just does milling really well. If you go for Mill-Combo, I'd rather look to Phenax, God of Deception though. I can't say much about Azami or Arcum.

I know you can do cool tricks with Memnarch and High Tide + Turnabout to steal everything on the board. That deck also has Blue Sun's Zenith as an alternate win con, as well as a lot of "free" creatures like Palinchron and Cloud of Faeries.

I don't have a lot of experience with Sharuum the Hegemon, but if I had to guess that combo would involve Cloudshift + Isochron Scepter -ing Sharuum every turn to get the Mindslaver-lock.

The choice is ultimately yours here; it depends on how mean you really want to be. If you don't care about a budgeted manabase, then Sharuum would be your likely choice. Her combo is more well suited for 1-on-1 games, as locking multiple opponents is pretty mana intensive, plus you need the untap abilities to do it. Otherwise, Memnarch can grab any threat you want, but completely wiping someone depends on how many lands you control. Both have their obvious weakness, including artifact hate, but Memnarch falls harder to Homeward Path, which is a common inclusion in most decks nowadays. Mainboard graveyard hate is less common, so I would say Sharuum is the more stable of the two. I don't really have an opinion on the other choices, but I hope I helped!

Thank you both for your suggestions & opinions!

I guess I should add that this will be catered more towards multiplayer EDH and not really 1v1.

Oona is basically an infinite mana combo commander, and thats alright if you dont mind winning the same way every time.

Arcum is much more timmy oriented, but his need to tap makes him a bit slow for a dedicated combo build. Super tons of combos available to the deck though, which is johnny friendly as well.

Azami is probably hardest combos to disrupt, and her builds tend to come with a shit-ton of filtering and draw, which helps up her combos reliability. Not a ton of variability to her combos though.

Memnarch tends to be more of an infinite mana combo commander like oona, but he has more punch if you are denied your combo, as stealing stuff is badass by itself, where making a couple 1/1 flyers is pretty tame.

Arcum Dagsson is probably the most competitive of the four but gets kinda old playing with him after a while.
