Grim Monolith: Is it worth it?

Commander Deck Help forum

I'm looking to finish my brago stax list, and I was looking at how to make it cheaper. My first idea is Grim Monolith for a few reasons

  1. its $50

  2. It doesn't do a lot for what it is

  3. I don't run Power Artifact

  4. I don't run Rings of Brighthearth.

  5. Its FIFTY DOLLARS

I would love to hear what everyone thinks in terms of replacements/ideas!

Well, in a strict sense it's worth it because it's RL, so if you ever want to play it in a deck you should pick it up now rather than later. (The foil price just super spiked, so...)

But otherwise, if you're not playing Rings, you can just replace it with a random mana artifact. Or you can run something like Lavinia of the Tenth, which is can be a soft lock on the table.

If you don't care about gold-bordered cards, there's a gold-border Grim Monolith for about $3.

I use it, since I don't play tournaments and no one cares since it's not a proxy, it's a real card printed by Wizards. Plus it's budget friendly.

The world championships decks i think have gold-bordered cards. Basically they printed whatever deck won the pro tour in a non-tournament legal gold border so you could play pro-level decks with your friends for cheap. Kinda a cool idea.

You can find it here for SCG or here for cardkingdom. Unfortunately tcgplayer doesn't carry them. The cardkingdom one is a dollar less than the scg one.
