Gonti, Lord of Luxury

Commander Deck Help forum

Okay. This HAS to be my newest favorite card. Conspiracy has held the ranks for a suppppppper long time and I love it to death, however, I'm looking at you, the reader of my ramblings, to help me in breaking this guy.

Now if anyone knows me, I love the weird shit. Cards that nobody plays or thinks of anymore. So far, everyone will think of cards like Rescue from the Underworld or Conjurer's Closet in order to try and blink him. Same as Crypt Ghast and other mana doublers, even Strionic Resonator to gain the most out of his effect.

What I want from you guys is to throw at me your weirdest, EVEN most roundabout ways, to do something funny with this guy or break him. I will not restrict you on colors, as well... I might want to run him in some other multicolored decks, so things like Mirror Gallery + Infinite Reflection could be hilarious.

Thoughts?

Other than blinking him, you could use similar abilities such as Grenzo, Havoc Raiser.Let's see, black red. White and blue have nice blinking. I think maybe a sultai deck with blinking and recursion, a bit of evasion too. Depending on the format Chandler might help.

Just like you said above use Mirror Gallery + Infinite Reflection. Then use Clone Legion.

You don't even need Infinite Reflection. There is no clause saying you can only cast it as long as Gonti, Lord of Luxury remains in play, meaning even if it leaves play you can still cast the exiled card. So, with Mirror Mockery you'd create a token every time he attacked, continuously exiling cards that you can play till the end of the game.

abenz419, the idea about Infinite Reflection is the ability of having every creature be Gonti. This means his ETB continuously keeps triggering. So if you play a Zombie deck who floods their battlefield with Zombies. 14 Zombies allows you to cycle through 56 cards of an enemy's library, and exile 14 of those threats or anything you wanted in order to keep your opponent from playing them, or playing them yourself. The idea behind having every creature be Gonti is an Exile Mill deck, not using his extra benefit of casting stuff.

actually that was just my bad, I misread what he said and apparently was completely out of it when I responded.

When I got the notification for his post, for some reason I thought that was in response to what I said and was originally thinking that you don't need Mirror Gallery because it doesn't matter that that he's legendary and the tokens would die because you can cast the cards even after he's gone. As you can see, I got distracted when I responded though and didn't even reference the card I meant to. I'm really not sure what happened there but I somehow managed to get nothing I was actually thinking into words there.... lol

Mirror Gallery is just to keep the creatures alive. It's simply bad game planning to only have one creature on the board and the rest immediately sac'd.

ok I'll take that one as your bad for not reading what I said this time.

Cause I said I originally thought it was in response to my comment when I joked about there finally being a use for Mirror Mockery. In which case who would care if the creature isn't immediately sac'd because your forced to exile it at end of combat anyways. It would actually be extremely bad game planning to include Mirror Gallery then.

Wake the Dead, targeting Gonti and Archaeomancer, returning Wake the Dead to your hand. Get Gonti entering on each opponent's turn for as long as you have 2BB available.

Weirdest, most roundabout ways of breaking him, with no limitations on color? Okay.

Step one, cast Behold the Beyond, finding Phyrexian Altar, Mitotic Slime, and Rune-Scarred Demon.

Step two, cast Phyrexian Altar, Mitotic Slime, and Rune-Scarred Demon, tutor up Sidisi, Undead Vizier.

Step three, cast Sidisi, Undead Vizier, sacrifice her to tutor up Ever After.

Step four, sacrifice Mitotic Slime and Rune-Scarred Demon and all of the tokens Slime produces to make 8 mana. Cast Ever After resurrecting Slime and Demon. Tutor Ever After back to hand. Rinse and repeat. You now have infinite mana (and infinite 1/1's, if you only sac Slime + 5 tokens instead of all six).

Step five, generate 10 billion mana, so you'll have plenty of reserves. Now, cast Ever After on Sidisi, Undead Vizier and Rune-Scarred Demon, getting to tutor twice, for Ever After and Gonti, Lord of Luxury.

Step six, cast Gonti, then cast whatever you get, then sac him to get more mana, then sac your tutor creatures, and infinitely resurrect him using Ever After and one of the tutor creatures.

Step seven, since you have infinite mana, and infinite ability to tutor through your deck, and infinite ability to exile opponent's cards and cast them, you get to cast literally everyone's remaining libraries.

Step eight ...?

Step nine, profit.

Only needs Golgari colors. Incidentally, this also works if you replace Ever After and either Sidisi or RSD with Eternal Witness and Victimize.

@PhotogenicParasympathetic: You don't even need green wouldn't it work just as well with Priest of Gix instead of Mitotic Slime?

chirz2792: Yeah, it totally does work that way too. Good call, hadn't even thought of that.

Oh! Thanks to cards mentioned in the previous posts, here's an infinite version of my suggestion. It's less roundabout than PhotogenicParasympathetic's combo, and slightly riskier as you have to wait until the first opponent's combat step:

Cast Wake the Dead targeting Gonti, Priest of Gix, and Archaeomancer (returning Wake the Dead to hand), then sacrifice them all to Ashnod's Altar. You now have 6BBB in your mana pool. Recast Wake the Dead for 3BB. Rinse and repeat. Infinite mana. Exile and play all other libraries.

It's all in black, so Gonti can be your commander. Behold the Beyond or Diabolic Revelation can fetch you the other three cards you need.

@resturgence: That still works but Archaeomancer isn't black.
