Finding my last commander!

Commander Deck Help forum

The only color identity I lack a sleeved up deck for is white/blue. Was wondering opinions about direction I should go. As I try to make 32 decks feel/play at least slightly differently makes this difficult. Also, white/blue being my least favorite color combination. Here are some things to consider:

  • I don't like stax. So no grand arbiter.
  • I already got a fliers themed deck
  • I already got a token themed deck.
  • I already got a creature with counters matters deck.
  • I already have a deck with a hard lock in it.
  • I already have a play cards from opponents library deck.

This leaves me with slim options.
Which include sphinx tribal(or another theme with one of them at the helm), brago (took roon apart so blink theme is possible), ephara, dragon/spellslinger (as white/blue dragons will play different than prossh dragons), merfolk, birds, a historic themed deck, or some other theme a white/blue commander can do that I am missing.

Mainly wanting input of what others think might be an interesting deck or idea.

TIA!!

Brago, King Eternal combo control is always good.

Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage is essentially Vedalken Orrery in the 'zone, which leads to some awesome shenanigans. I highly endorse it.

Azor, the Lawbringer seems like a cool big commander to build around

Have you considered Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper ? He's focused around spell slinging and stomping with lands, and several major players in the deck really aren't seen anywhere else.

Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage is my vote. Artifact beatdown with a ComboWin backup.

I'll give a third vote for Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage . Lots of directions to go with him, and you can get a good build no matter your budget. I'm not a big Azorious player, either, but I do like my Raff deck.

Not that you asked, but here is my current list: Raff's Renewal

If you are thinking of W/U dragons, you might like Taigam, Ojutai Master . The rebound is nice, but not being able to counter your dragons, instants, and sorceries is great for spell slinging dragons.

Personally, I made a spicy voltron deck that abuses the rebound for more draw and a very convoluted infinite turn combo. The list is outdated, but if you're interested for ideas you can take a look: War Monk Taigam

Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker and/or Dragonlord Ojutai - Voltron

Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper if you want a challenge.

And I know you said you already have a flying theme... but do you have a telepathic flying toolbox theme? If not... I shall shamelessly advertise my most prized/favorite deck Isperia's Flying Circus of Tools.

My vote would be Azor sphinx tribal, just because sphinxes do such ridiculous things (I mean that literally). Unblockable shenanigans and fact/fiction on a stick with Unesh, Criosphinx Sovereign is good fun.

I hardly ever see bird tribal, but my buddy runs a fun deck helmed by Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker called 300 Tons of Bird Shit

Searching for azorius legends got me some interesting results that would fit your resctrictions:

Bruna, Light of Alabaster seems like a greak enchantment voltron.

Medomai the Ageless seems awesome for sphinx tribal or taking turns.

Niambi, Faithful Healer would basically let you put daddy teferi at the helm.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Right now I am leaning towards either Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage or a sphinx themed deck with one of the sphinxes I already own. Raff should be quick for me to build as I should have most of my esper artifact deck pieces from my oloro deck that I took apart, and only lose ability to play some of the cards (those with black obviously). Sphinx tribal might be interesting, and allow the deck to not be as oppressive with the new people with lower powered decks at my lgs. As I like to build with what I have, then trade for upgrades.
