Commander for R/W Aggro

Commander Deck Help forum

I'm getting the R/W commander 2015 deck, and I'm not sure which commander to use. I was thinking Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, because she really protects you, while having your opponents take damage quicker. The only problem is that this will make me a target on the board, but maybe her second ability would be enough.

Are we talking straight out of the package, or are you modifying it?

Straight out of the package

So here's my two cents. The deck just doesn't have enough to protect Gisela. She is a huge target, you're absolutely right. Aside from Lightning Greaves to protect her from targeted removal, there isn't much to stop them from sending her straight back to your Command Zone. Unfortunately as well, the R/W deck seems to be primarily tooled towards Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas. Anya really functions as just a late-game member of the 99 unless you retool the deck to be entirely built around her ability. You can kind of achieve the same thing naturally as a result of in-game choices, but you're doing it suboptimally.

You can try Gisela or Anya out, but you're really not going to have the optimized experience unless you're running Kalemne, sadly.

I agree. The only problem is that Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas only really helps herself. I guess it's ok though because they have speels to make kalemne cost cheaper.

Yea I noticed a similar issue in the WB deck. I really wanted to try Karlov out, but there were like 5 cards in the whole deck that gain life. Pretty disappointing. Wouldn't have been hard to throw in a Soul Warden or a Blind Obedience, they have synergy with both.

In my experience with the color combination, to win you HAVE to be able to keep a board presence. The biggest failing I see in the deck is that you have no anti-wrath protection. So my first adds would be:
Boros Charm
Ghostway
Faith's Reward
Rootborn Defenses
Legion's Initiative

While all of the RW commanders have their strengths, Iroas, God of Victory is probably the strongest in a vacuum. It is very hard to get rid of, and both abilities are super relevant to the aggro plan.

I second Iroas. Reverse menace works great with him to make big creatures unblockable (Vorrac Battlehorns).
