Budget Yuriko worth it?

Commander Deck Help forum

I recently got into commander, after playing mainly modern. Got myself an Atraxa proliferate deck (and upgraded it with some staples like Doubling Season Craterhoof Behemoth), which was quite slow and non-performing 1v1 (maybe I'm doing things completely wrong) and a Meren deck, which was performing a bit better straight out of the box, but not quite as decent as I hoped.

Now I'm thinking about making a budget Yuriko deck (budget around $100 / 150 max).

Are there any recommendation decklists for this budgetrange?

Will I be able to compete with a lvl 6-ish 1v1 deck?

Or should I just stick with Meren (cheaper to upgrade than Atraxa) and go from there?

As you can read between the lines, my commander experience sofar has not been as amazing as I hoped. Hopefully you guys can lead me in the right direction.

As I understand correctly, it is not allowed to post decklists to request tips for improvement.

But I guess it is fine to just show an example of a list that I walked into. I might go and build into something like this

Yuriko: Ballin' on a Budget <$150

I just want some action on the kitchentable. Hope this might work.

I honestly dont play a whole lot of commander... but I am a big fan of Ninjas and have been playing with ninjas in Oathbreaker/modern; as far as ninjas in single/multiplayer are concerned I kinda feel that it's all about theme and flavor and you just love ninjas for the sake of playing ninjas because they are fun.

As far as being competitive/spikey there are just more powerful things to do in colors.... not that you cant/wont win but it's a bit challenging imo/experience with many many close but no cigar games even in a super lax play group.

TL;DR

If your playing to win I wouldn't recommend a ninja themed deck and would recommend improving either of your current decks.

So, I highly recommend Commander's Quarters on youtube. He builds focused decks i would put in the 5.5-6.5 power range. I think he has a Yuriko deck, but there are a plethora of others as well of you have other interests.

That is good to know thanks. Honestly, I think the comparison with another format does not fit all too well, as the big upside of running Yuriko is the non-existend commandertax. Not sure how well oathbreaker translates to commander. But I guess you are right about upgrading the other decks.

Cheers, hopefully I'll learn something helpful.

Best of luck, i have a Meren deck on my profile that I'd rate around a 7 on the power scale if your interested in it. Im a huge fan. A little pricey though because I've been pretty fortunate in trades and pack pulls in the time I've been playing. Feel free to steal any ideas you'd like to though. Also, feel free to tag me in anything you build or own currently, I'm ok at this and i enjoy helping.

Wow, that looks really well thought through. Definitely going to take a closer look this weekend.

Just Phyrexian Tower and Spore Frog in the maybeboard, that was a bit awkward for me, as they are so amazing in the deck. But probably I have to see how the rest operates as a whole.

Haha, i just don't own any copies. That deck is a reflection of my paper version. When i acquire the cards, i will make the appropriate changes. :p I also want to pick up a few better Sac outlets and some answers.
