Budget Precon Upgrades

Commander Deck Help forum

My brother and I picked up a couple of Commander precons and want to upgrade them a bit to make our games more fun. He has Nature's Vengeance (the Jund deck from 2018) while I have Primal Genesis (the Naya deck from 2019).

We haven't changed any cards in the precons at all. What are some good budget (no more than $50 for each deck) upgrades we can make? For reference, I'm planning to keep Ghired as my commander, while he wants to swap his to Gyrus, Waker of Corpses.

If your friend changes to Gyrus, Waker of Corpses I am pretty sure the deck has to be rebuilded with a new focus, since the deck is focused towards Lord Windgrace , this requires a little more work but a card like Primal Vigor fits right in if the budget is there.

I think you can find some pretty good guides with some budget updrages for the naya deck:

I'd put a few cards that directly deal with the decks your up against. So the first one that comes to mind is Ratchet Bomb , this card easily destroys tokens at a very low cost. Also has enough versatility to take care of other stuff as well. This card is super cheap. You can pick them up for a buck.

Other good cards for Primal Genesis

Anointed Procession , Parallel Lives , God-Eternal Oketra could also look at cards like Adorned Pouncer

The deck also needs better single target removal add in Generous Gift that is a white version beast within and Swords to Plowshares as examples

also replace some of the lands with artifact mana ramp there are some better ones like signets are better than lockets

This depends on the commander you choose. Each deck comes with 3 commanders "who can be at the helm". Each commander plays differently. So my suggestion would be to replace cards the cards that dont work with the theme of the commander you choose. Then with what's left of budget upgrade your lands/ramp package. Get rid of most lands that always enter tapped. Replace lockets with signets. Lower the converted mana costs of all other ramp as possible. Make sure you have good card draw options (I usually try for 5/6 with most being repeatable draw options). These are all ways to get decks to run smoother and quicker.

For specific cards other than what's listed above, Google the commander's name (or precon deck name) with budget upgrades. This will show sites and videos that will explain why the cards are chosen. As I have found out, it easier to learn to build if you understand why "card a" is better than "card b" or Vice versa in a particular deck. As Sol Ring is great in the vast majority of commander decks, some cards are only playable in some decks/strategies.

Edit: I prefer green's ramp spells over artifact ramp. While mass land destruction exists, it's not as prelivant as mass artifact removal.
