Budget Ezuri, Claw of Progress

Commander Deck Help forum

I finally convinced my friends to start playing Commander so that means that I finally have the motivation to start upgrading the precons I already own. So I come here, asking kindly for you to help me tweak my Ezuri, Claw of Progress precon. I already cut some of the (I hope) bad cards and add some of the signature cards according to edhrec.com. One more thing is that my friends will probably be playing either precons, slightly upgraded precons, or $20 - $50 decks so I'm only planning on using the precon, my (small and newer) collection and approx. $20. For reference, I put all the cards I cut from the precon in the SB list and all the cards I'm planning on buying (with around $20) in the deck description.

Lastly, my main questions are:

Am I running enough mana rocks, ramp spells, and removal?

Should I put the cards in my maybeboard in my mainboard?

And any general tips/advice or suggestions on what to add or cut?

MTG Goldfish Upgrades

Literally everything you need to know. And as always, when building an EDH deck, use edhrec. It's the best resource for cards that need to go in your EDH deck for any give commander or color combination.

I already looked at edhrec and made some changes using it before I posted this. I have seen the MTG Goldfish Ezuri upgrade page before however, I forgot to look at it. Thanks!

You have a lot of lands. When Im working on a deck I usually run 40 - 1 for every 3 ramp spells. Usually 37 lands/9 ramp spells.

I'd add more card draw. I like Bident of Thassa and Skullclamp with all the small creatures.

Why is trop in a budget deck?

Funny thing about that. It is in here because I already had it (same with Breeding Pool and the fetches). However, unlike the shock and fetches which I bought in the past for a different deck, I got the Tropical Island (Revised, btw) at a garage sale. It was in a big box of cards that I got for $20! :) Some other notable pulls for that box are a Chronicles Blood Moon, a Damaged Mana Vault, and a Kitchen Finks!

Another questions:

Do Cold-Eyed Selkie (ability is nice but can I use it consistently), Edric, Spymaster of Trest (do I have enough of a go wide strategy), and Rashmi, Eternities Crafter (does it need more instants to be good) do enough in my deck to warrant a spot?

I run Cold-Eyed Selkie, but not Edric nor do I plan on running Rashmi. Selkie is good enough to run because its a great drop on turn 3/4/5, and can often swing while there is still at least one person has no blockers. Later, even if no one has islands(which in it of itself is unlikely in a 3-4 player game), you can stack counters on it until it swings and they have to chump it. I don't run Edric because I rely on an Alpha Strike sort of wincon, using Wild Beastmaster, Overrun, Overwhelming Stampede with one large creature and then buffing all the other ones. Not as sure about Rashmi, but I don't think so, mostly because there are other cards that give me similar effects, such as Birthing Pod, but Pod is more efficient.

I think you might want to run some more card draw, so consider Zendikar Resurgent, Drumhunter, and possibly Kami of the Crescent Moon. For mana ramp, consider Viridian Joiner. For more counters in the event someone gets rid of Ezuri, Immaculate Magistrate, Ivy Lane Denizen, Forgotten Ancient, and Inexorable Tide or other proliferate cards should be considered. Cephalid Constable and Triskelion are all-stars in my deck.

As far as cuts, I would dump anything that forces you to sac creatures to get tokens and things that just get tokens to buff their power. Bloodspore Thrinax, Avenger of Zendikar, Patagia Viper, Thelonite Hermit and Master Biomancer all look like safe cuts.

NO NO NO ABORTDon't cut Avenger of Zendikar. It's one of the most powerful experience counter generators you have. It's a wonderful high-end Pod target, you can bounce it for days and just win, one of the better Clone targets, all in all one of the best cards in your deck.
