Artifact Deck Help

Commander Deck Help forum

So, with the new Kaladesh artifacts, I want to build an artifact deck of my own. The problem is I have no idea where to start, this not being my typical playstyle. I'm sure I can craft a fun and unique and solid deck given my competent deckbuilding skills. However, I need help getting the ball rolling. Namely, I want to know what you guys think are the strongest/funnest/most unique color combos for artifacts. Keep in mind that I like multicolor decks(2-3 colors), but I'm open to mono-colors too, so long as you have a good reason for it and, preferably, a good commander suggestion to prove your point. This brings me to commander selection. I like generals that can enable cool combos, without limiting my options, as I like building my decks my way and not my commander's way. I like fun generals that have their own flair. Flavor is really important here too, I like newer cards that denote an overall theme of the deck. In this case, I want someone who screams artifacts. An engineer or artificer or something like that, to give you an idea. Thanks in advance!

To give you an idea, I'm rather drawn to Glissa, the Traitor, but even I can't justify it too well, because it lacks the strong AND fun enablers that blue and red provides. See what I'm getting at here? But I don't know, maybe Glissa could be fun, you tell me.

Arcum Dagsson is hands down the best Artifact Commander imo. I believe currently ranked at Tier 2. He is highly competitive, enables lots of combos, can go in multiple build directions.

Glissa, the Traitor as mentioned above plays another style. She can be effective but she is no Arcum.

Daretti, Scrap Savant is another Artifact Commander. He can be competitive as well.

I think that Arcum (Mono-) and Daretti (Mono-) are probably the best. I am personally biased towards Arcum, he is just a monster. I also feel is probably the strongest Mono color in EDH, while is the weakest.

If you do play a Mono Commander, you get the benefit of using some of my favorite Mana cards. Use Snow-Covered Basics with Extraplanar Lens. You have Caged Sun available and Gauntlet of Power available as well.

Oh I forgot to mention, I don't know how well any of these would do with Kaladesh Artifacts like Vehicles and what not. I personally don't see them being a viable competitive build. They could be fun as a sort of Tribal Vehicle build or something.

According to our handy list, I guess people agree with my ideas.

I have seen Arcum just smash games. I have seen pretty nasty Daretti builds, I have never seen a good Glissa build, though I'm sure it's possible.

Personally I like to draw, a lot. I also like to dump my entire hand out in a turn if possible. So pretty much red is required for access to the Wheel of Fortune type effects. Running all the wheels, recursion(Scrap Mastery and a ton of mana rocks (Dreamstone Hedron and Hedron Archive my favs) is a lot of fun.

Adding blue offers 4 really good planeswalkers (Dack Fayden, Saheeli Rai, Tezzeret the Seeker and Teferi, Temporal Archmage), a few tutors and more Wheel effects. Those planeswalkers can all be win conditions and in general they are fun to play but there's no real dedicated UR artifact commander. Jhoira of the Ghitu is close but mass land destruction and cheating out Eldrazi/blightsteel has given her a kill on sight reputation. I'm thinking Nin, the Pain Artist would be fun but doesn't scream artifact deck but is easy to abuse.

All that said, I personally think Pia and Kiran Nalaar is the most fun. They combo out with Nim Deathmantle and can be a win condition with any ETB/Sac effects like Purphoros, God of the Forge or even Blasting Station. Basically you can build it creatureless which gives room for more artifact goodness.

P.s. I built mine around Nekusar, the Mindrazer because I'm a whore for planeswalkers and Daretti, Ingenious Iconoclast is worth it.

A blue edh artifact deck using Memnarch is good. If you need artifacts to look into you can check out my karn edh artifact but if you are going to use Memnarch there are some really nice blue spells that I sadly can't remember but a website EDHREC can help out

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! While I appreciate everyone's help, I ultimately settled on Silas Renn, Seeker Adept because he's flashy, he's an excuse to run solid equipments, and I've always wanted a blue/black deck. And yes, just Silas Renn to preserve flavor, the two colors, the artifacts synergy and that extra slot in the deck. That said, all the suggestions weren't in vain, I can surely take something from all the good advice, so thanks again!

Word, well Silas Renn, Seeker Adept is awesome good luck. I'd suggest Mask of Riddles!

So...if you're cool with running Esper, there's Sydri, Galvanic Genius for your convenience. you could keep Silas, and basically run fun artifacts that could be nice bodies: Boompile, Nevinyrral's Disk, Esper Sphinxes, or maybe Orzhov spells for removal.

Nothing wrong with running Silas by himself, but maybe consider another partner for versatility.

Reyhan, Last of the Abzan is pretty cool with Silas since you can run all the Modular artifacts for extreme value (Arcbound Ravager or any other arcbound creature)

Or of course Akiri, Line-Slinger but sometimes going 4 color can lead to clunkiness.
