Animal/angel tribal

Commander Deck Help forum

Hey guys, so I made a thread before christmast about my gf wanting to start playing magic and goal has been achieved, now she wants to play with my friends and I in EDH, she learned the basics of a 60 card deck, green red. She said she wants a animal/beast tribe theme and or mixed with angels as she saw avacyn archangel of hope and she went nuts on it, but mono white aint so good and is kinda expansive, so I though of arabo that I could modify with angels in it, but I wanted some opinions on what/how I could do it, as she just wants to play creatures and have something cute/girly.

Anytime people say cute these days I like to at least mention Wasitora, Nekoru Queen because of the tokens that are created.

Avacyn, Angel of Hope decks are generally fine at mid level and casual tables. I dunno if she would really want to run a deck with 10+ broad wraths though... That is what it usually does.

My friend has an angel tribal deck that runs rather well. The commander is not legal but I've never met anyone who disallows it. His deck does need some work but angel tribal is rather powerful.

I would also mention that mixing tribes rarely goes well. Unless you find some angels that directly buff cats or something do not mix tribes. You are only going to weaken the deck in most cases. There are exceptions but only rarely.

If you do Arahbo, Roar of the World I think token really works well with him. Parallel Lives, Anointed Procession, etc. maybe a few equip so that Kemba, Kha Regent can work. Lots and lots of mana so she can pay for arahbo's second ability as much as she feels like.

Gahiji, Honored One would be a good commander for beast tribal.

Thanks for the replys redkhan and DrukenReaps Ill consider that custom commander, looks fun, gives her access to all the colors too but as shes picking the game up, I feel like 5 colors would be really intense for her. Wasitora is also a good idea! Although Gahji sends the opponents somewhere else. Im more hesitant between gahji and wasitora though! thanks for the inputs!

Hmmm Gahji vs Wasitora.

I would say unless this is meant to be a surprise definitely drag her into this process now and figure out if she wants a deck that wants to tend towards going wide or one that wants to tend towards going tall.

Gahiji, Honored One is an awesome token/aggro commander. Also works as a bit of huggy and pillow forty.

Wasitora, Nekoru Queen works really well as voltron and kind of a stax-lite commander.

Both can be fun ways to go. Voltron is kind of a pain in the ass since it is usually creature light but Wasitora limits that weakness somewhat.

True true, she dosent really care as I tried including her in the process, shes more about, make me something. So I leaned on three things, karametra, easy, ramp, can play big creatures and angels. Gajiji which makes tokens and pillowfort, and the wasitora which also made her pillowfort, but I will remove her as I know voltron is something she wont like. thanks again DrukenReaps

I think a Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist deck could be a fun one. I've been thinking of trying to brew her up as kind of a voltron with Enchantress drawing in it, but I just haven't figured it all out yet (wouldn't have to be voltron, either). She looks like a fun commander to build around, though, and might be worth a look.

bushido_man96 you are right, she would make more sense logically as voltron, but I can try to build her pillowfort, I can put in some cats (which she loves as we have a cat), she gets the green for ramp and can put in maybe a few angels, thanks for the input my man !

You are welcome. The nice thing about Mirri is that as long as you attack with her each turn, she offers a nice pillow fort ability in herself, so you wouldn't necessarily need a lot more options. But white offers some good stuff in Ghostly Prison, Blind Obedience, Kismet, Island Sanctuary, and the recent Kinjalli's Sunwing. Another good card draw engine in a deck like that would be Sram, Senior Edificer.

late to the party, but my $0.02 is that you could do a lot worse than buy a pre-con. Great for learning EDH deck balance and understanding what to switch out for better cards... Both G/W cats (C17) and Naya beasts (C13) are a lot of fun out of the box. (Marath, Will of the Wild is a top-tier commander if she wanted to take beasts in a more competitive direction.)
