RELEASE THE KRAKEN! Deck-Building Challenge (Prize/Tournament)

So for the longest time I have struggled making a deck around my favorite creature subtype - Kraken.

So my challenge for all of you is to make a Kraken deck of EPIC proportions! The rules are as follows:

  1. The focus of the deck MUST be your Krakens. It is perfectly fine to include other non-Kraken creatures, as long as they combo/benefit with a Kraken or have a sea/ocean theme to them.

  2. Does not necessarily have to be in the Modern format, but EVERY card must have been printed with the modernized card design (For example, I would be perfectly fine with cards from extra sets like Conspiracy or Graveborn, but NOT any that haven't been reprinted since 7th edition and earlier).

  3. 60 card deck limit, sideboards are allowed with a maximum of 15 cards.

  4. As for cost, I'd try to keep the deck under $200 for TCGplayer low. To put things into perspective, I don't mind having an awesome landbase and being able to include room to add flavorful rares/mythic rares, but I'm not up for decks stuffed full of cards like Snapcaster Mage , Cryptic Command , Dark Confidant , Thoughtseize , etc. just for the sake of being good.

The reason I say this, is because after you all submit your decks, there will be 3 winners.

  1. Winner of the double-elimination tournament that will be posted on Challonge. On the last day I will play all of your decks to the best of my ability, then post the results. (I've been playtesting my own decks for a long time, so don't worry I will be very fair).

  2. Winner for the most thematic/creative deck. This would include sea/ocean themed cards that would fit flavorfully in a Kraken deck.

  3. Winner for the most obscure deck strategy. While remaining true to the rules of the challenge, this winner would bring the most out-of-the-box perspective to the Kraken deck.

Each winner will receive a gift code for one free game to redeem on Steam. Yes, you could perfectly well get it yourself, but if you are too lazy to make a Humble Bundle account and check the Humble Store on Monday then consider this a pretty cool prize ;)

Also if you have any questions, feel free to post in the comments and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Ladies and Gentlemen, you have one week. (Until 11:59pm on 09/18/14)

My entry: Kraken Self-Mill. If it isn't Kraken enough, I'll change it so it is more. Let me know.

Not sure if this is still going but I 've been playing this deck for a long time now in my casual multiplayer games and it can be very funny.
