Oops all spells vs modern homebrew

The story so far:

You played a mountain payed 2 life for gitaxian probe seeing they have a turn 1 victory in hand you have no way to prevent it, unless you win turn 1. You draw a card from your probe and it is monastary swiftspear.

Using this start you must win, it is turn one you are on the play. You're running a modern homebrew

If you're in need of encouraging let's say in the hypothetical there's a booster fresh black lotus going to the victor and there is no game 2

Do you have an obsession with turn 1 wins?

Play mountain, play Faithless Looting, discard Narset, Enlightened Master and Monastery Swiftspear. 5 cards in hand. Play Simian Spirit Guide x2, Manamorphose and Goryos vengence. Attack with narset, exiling and playing for free Dragonstorm, fetching 4 Bogardan Hellkite. Boom.

Boza you failed you have to win from the situation given to you

If you need to ask though you broke a basic rule of the game by playing a second mountain

Boza says... #6

At what point did I play a second mountain? I only palyed and used 1 for the Looting. But in order to get to 4 storm for Dragonstorm, there needs to be another Manamorphose in there.

The best use of monastery swiftspear for t1 kill is to discard it to looting. I mean, there is the simple mountain, swiftspear, 3x mutagenic growth, simian spirit guide and assault strobe, but that is too simple.

The given situation has a mountain in play and you "played a mountain"

November 14, 2014 7:46 a.m.

tyforthevenom says... #8

Also the second part is I have to make this decklist after so can't be "god hand" but instead "win due to consistancy"

November 14, 2014 7:48 a.m.

Boza says... #9

Ah, well, then just skip the mountain play, the second one is completely unnecessary.

Boza says... #10

You cannot make a deck that is consistent in turn 1 wins. Wizards would ban that stuff faster than you can say "Boza seems to have a dislike for solitaire combo decks".

tyforthevenom says... #11

Doesnt need consistant turn 1 kills but consistent fast kills with t1 capabilities

Well, do you want homebrew? Because Blistercoil Weird, Paradise Mantle, Simian Spirit Guide to equip, Simian Spirit Guide to play swiftspear, Gitaxian Probe for one mana, cantrip through your deck until you hit Crimson Wisps and swing with both, Grapeshot and swing to win, or just get enough that the swiftspear wins it.

Also any combination of 2 Simian Spirit Guide/Chancellor of the Tangle, then Manamorphose drawing Tainted Strike. Cast Immolating Souleater then infect and any one drop haste like Crimson Wisps to win.

Oh, also 4x Archive Trap when they crack their fetch, then laugh since their combo involves drawing cards?

lemmingllama their strategy involves 0 lands and victory by decking themself

TehCoopeh says... #14

Exile Simian Spirit Guide, cast Manamorphose, double Thoughtseize.

They scoop, GG.

tyforthevenom says... #15

TehCoopeh except you dont have a way to stop them winning turn 1

November 14, 2014 10:24 a.m.

I don't think you should worry about playing a modern deck against a legacy deck :P

Exile Simian Spirit Guide, cast Manamorphose to get white, cast Rest in Peace.

I feel like all these extra stipulations should have been in the original post...

November 14, 2014 11:25 a.m.

lemmingllama says... #19

Just as a joke, you could 3x Simian Spirit Guide/Chancellor of the Tangle then Manamorphose, playing Balustrade Spy or Undercity Informer. Mill them and they lose on their drawstep since all of an Oops all spells deck win conditions are sorcery speed.

Also I agree with vampirelazarus, its silly to think that Legacy and Modern decks should be comparable. And assuming it is a Modern version of Oops all spells, then they are sacrificing all of the consistency that the deck has just to try and hope for a magical Christmas land hand.

If you can Thoughtseize twice and still lose to a turn one combo deck, then you decision making is probably lack-luster.

Tell me what their opening hand is.

tyforthevenom, you are basically wanting people to make a deck for you and you're saying "It can't be that way!" when someone does. If you don't want help, feel free to shoot down ideas but if you actually want to get something then don't be so particular when you never laid down any ideas in the first place.

Clearly, this challenge is impossible. The one part that hasn't been mentioned is that the rules change as you make suggestions so no matter what you say, you fail.

MattTheNinja says... #23

I like the double Thoughtsieze play. It DOES STOP THEM WINNING TURN 1 because you take away the things they would use to win turn 1....

As the creator of the challenge, what you do do tyforthevenom? Since you made the challenge surely you have some sort of theory on getting out of the situation too

reads through comments

Did you specifically want us to win with the Monastery Swiftspear that we just drew? With Modern-legal cards only? Is that actually what you want us to do? Because otherwise, the Dragonstorm win on page 1 totally works, since you didn't tap your Mountain for the Probe, you can use it for Faithless Looting.

T1 Mountain, Probe, draw Swiftspear (CIH: 6), Faithless Looting, discarding Narset (CIH: 5), exile Guide, exile Guide, Manamorphose, draw Goryo's Vengeance (CIH: 3), Vengeance Narset, attack, have Dragonstorm in your top 4, storm count is at 4 (Probe, Looting, Manamorphose, Narset), 4 Bogardan Hellkites come in and deal 5 damage to your face each. GG. You even get a fifth unnecessary dragon because of the original Dragonstorm!

I have another offering.
Tap Mountain for , cast Monastery Swiftspear, cast Ornithopter, exile Simian Spirit Guide, cast Infernal Plunge sacrificing Ornithopter, gaining , cast Manamorphose changing to , cast Tainted Strike, then delve 4 and cast the Become Immense you drew off of Manamorphose, swinging for 12 infect damage.

November 14, 2014 2:36 p.m.

Tap the mountain for Mana Clash. Both players flip 17 straight tails (remember the 2 life you paid to Gitaxian Probe!), but then you run off a string of 4 heads when they get 3 more tails before their first heads. Win.
