mtg, mtg cards, magic the gathering, gaming, geeks
ok guys, lets admit, were all sick of standard being all zombies, delverblade and wolfrun...
im sick of it too. whenever i bring a different idea, i get stomped on, then laughed at.
i think i speak for a lot of people when i say that we need some new, creative, competitive deck ideas...
so my challenge to you is this:
LETS CREATE A LIST OF NEW DECK IDEAS AND SEE IF WE CANT GET ONE TO WIN A FNM OR TWO!!!
lets get those creative juices flowen people...
LET THE CREATIVE DECK MAKING BEGIN!!!
Mono black hand disruption. Take out all of ramps and delvers bombs early game with discards and they have no gas to run on. Can also use the discards to sucker out a mana leak so your obliterator hits the table. Running a deck like this and its quite fun to drop smallpox and turn one despises on tier 1 decks and watch them scramble.
I recently made deck:fun-staller-deck its not standard but it's kinda hilarious to see a blue destroy deck. plus when you run out of cards you just tap/sac the scepter. Your garunteed a long game lol. + a win. It's not unbeatable so it makes it fun to challenge.
@permhole96, Your original post summarizes my feelings towards standard right now and, most likely, as long as I continue to play mtg. here some of my creative decks that have worked in standard:
Out of Time (once flicker stuff comes out I will work on this again)
Elves Have NOT Left The Building (I noticed others talking about elves, so its cool to see that others acknowledge their current power)
Melira is Sexy (tough against enchantment-hate sideboarding.)
Colossal Burn (perfect for the metagame, watch out for tragic slip and frost titan though!)
i have won an FNM with my deck Black Hole Sun, and made top 4 with twice.I also made top 8 with deck:turbo-fog-lover, and J.R.R. Token. May not always win but making top 8 with a fog deck is funny as hell.......Also for another idea, i was thinking something along the lines of Heartless Summoning, Myr Superion, Grand Architect, Perilous Myr and Wurmcoil Engine. throw in a Bloodgift Demon or two i think you could have a pretty good deck to make atleast top 8 at your local FNM.
The deck that has done best for me consistently is my t1000. When I started playing, standard is what I played but as I continued to play, I found it static and boring to where if you weren't playing a top tier you did get laughed at. I just don't feel any sense of accomplishment winning with someone else's build. Standard just feels stale with no sense of creativity, which is why I'm starting to get into modern and legacy
My favorite standard deck to use at the moment has been dubbed "12coil" by my friends. It's a Grand Architect/Heartless Summoning hybrid with 4x Wurmcoil Engine, 4x Phyrexian Metamorph, and 4x Phantasmal Image. It's really tough to deal with 3-4 Wurmcoils on the field before turn 6.
My next idea is Demonic Torpor with Torpor Orb because it's awesome.
I take pride in my deck. It's not particularly good, or consistent, but it's fun, exciting, and can clinch a win against even the most battle-hardened of decks. I also take pride in the fact that I didn't really take a pro-made deck and just added a few tweaks to it. My friend told me about this idea, just a simple idea, and then I made the deck from scratch otherwise.
Its an idea just to build a deck around Havengul Lich.
ive commented it to some other ppl but i mention it here aswell 5 collor deck starring him all creatures that die can be summ to my side of field.
sounds awesome.
RG aggro R/g the non-werewolf style. And for AVR: R/U Budget Miracles different decks that Top8.
My top rated deck, deck:grafting-powerhouses is pretty fun :3
Also check out the insane Elf power my deck:elf-powers-go deck can bring out :3
Opponent likes creatures? I say deck:controlabsorb to them :3
What I tend to do is take a card that has a bad name for itself and make a deck to make it better. I have made Quicksilver Gargantuan a force to be reckoned with. I just took apart my own brew of Unburial Rites. It ran R,U,B,and W and I won two FNMs with it. Flayer of the Hatebound, and a gang of clones. I had my fun. Now I'm working on a R/W token deck that uses Burn at the Stake: deck:boros-riot.
I'm personally working on a Deadeye Navigator deck, which for the most part has been running pretty well for me, though I still have some problems with certain decks. But by and far it's one of the funnest decks I've played in a while. I love learning from the netdecks, and applying those principles to new deck ideas.
Deadeye Control for those who want to look at it.
my deck Home alone using single creatures for Predator's Gambit and Homicidal Seclusion.
Ohthenoises says...
My Boom goes the goblin! deck is another that is incredibly fun to play. The most fun I had was against u/b control where I had him to 6 life and a Increasing Vengeance
in the graveyard and enough mana to kill him if I topdecked a burn spell. Unfortunately he milled me out first but both of us knew if I topdecked a burn he was toast. We both laughed our asses off afterwards and he said I was his hardest match all night. Goblins are crazy fun to play and crazy easy to get ahold of price wise and they DECIMATE Titan decks without heavy creature hate.
