IAmKingTony says... #5
Hm, the way I worded that 0 ability on my first side is a little intense. I meant that to hinder you too, but you could just do it during your second main phase after you're done... oops. Maybe I should rephrase that lol
maybe just first strike on the token too

Halidir_Orveck says... #6
I like it though, tokens are very easily dealt with these days so I think it is balanced if the token isn't too insanely powerful. and it also is very conducive to an agro deck which we do not see in many walkers yet

yeah, there really isn't a walker for that
most white weenie decks go to Elspeth or Gideon by default but neither of them really fit in imo in that they're both sort of defensive
btw the plus abilities on my first side is meant to represent that I'm growing trees or putting in irrigation or whatever during peace time then suddenly when the time comes I'm ready to go to war with a red or black spell...
January 6, 2012 10:22 a.m.
2BB
Miasma, The Deathbringer

-X: All creatures get -X/-X until end of turn.
-9: You get an emblem with "whenever a creature dies, target player loses 5 life."
Starts at 2 loyalty.
How do you guys like that?
January 6, 2012 10:43 a.m.
Halidir_Orveck says... #10
I like Miasma, definately a slow roll walker but very black and very useful. the only thing I would say change is damage to lose life as that is more black than damage. that being said I think that is a viable walker, I imagine that Sorin to might be similar to this! very nice

Artessa is very interesting, I like the Aethermage aspect of her. the only thing i would suggest changing is her flip to 8 cards in hand simply because 7+ is really hard to do

I think his Limit Break ability might not be costed quite right, but I've never tried to design a planeswalker before, so I'm not sure.

I believe that is a pretty fair walker, I would give him the clause of as you cast him choose a type. very useful and very interesting using a wrinkle that we have yet to see. Overall i give it 4 out of 5 planeswalker sparks

MetalMeister, your planeswalker is basically a 6 colorless Emrakul, the Aeons Torn . You may want to consider changing his -3 to a non-legendary card from your hand.
January 6, 2012 1:06 p.m.
Well the idea of mine was to stay close to the theme of "things dying". A player losing life would kinda fit. But then it would fall under the "underpowered" category. It would be similar to Ajani Goldmane 's first. It doesn't really matter. I made it that way, so it could possibly kill weenies, and also hit other planeswalkers to finish them off. Sort of like Ajani Vengeant 's -2. But that being said, i didn't want it to be overpowered as his Lightning Helix because it is a + ability, and a +2 at that.
I think the -X could be the most used ability, without being too powerful. It could come out as a card:Black Sun's Zenith, or boost up to do a more powerful effect, possibly killing titans. This also effected my choice of the final ability. I didn't want it to be too powerful to offset the -X abilities power. But it is useful, and could create its own combo-ish shenanigans.

Dremblan, War Hero
1RRR
Planeswalker - Demblan
+1 Creatures you control get +1/+0 until end of turn.
-3 Deal 3 damage to target creature or player.
-8 Put a 3/1 red barbarian creaure token into play tapped for each creature you control
starting loyalty - 4
January 6, 2012 1:22 p.m.
what do you think of mine. i figured he'd be an instant target so it made the abilities(while powerful)difficult to use
January 6, 2012 1:31 p.m.
@rckclimber777 - I really like yours! The first two seem a little more U/R to me though. But the last effect you blew my mind on how perfectly powered it is though! (IMO) Maybe it could be 2UR, and change the wording on the -6 to be like "Cylus, the Gatekeeper deals so much damage to all creatures. You draw cards equal to the amount of creatures put into the graveyard this turn". I think that could be awesome for the flavor and abilities of a U/R walker.
@2austin5 - Your B/W walker looks promising. I think his +2 should be down to 1 spirit, but make it 1/1 and let it have flying. I think it would balance its power out based on the designs of Elspeth Tirel and Elspeth, Knight-Errant . I love the Vindicate ability. Its drawback and cost seems spot on. I think the final ability could be re-worded but I believe its power is spot on.
I love this thread, and I just like putting my opinions out there. Sorry if I upset anyone with my ideas and interpretations. Its all in the spirit of developing ideas.

Hear is a thought, you guys have really ran with this create a walker thing, you can download software that lets you create actually cards, why not have your playgroups make a walker, each player makes one that exemplifies your personalities and what you love about magic, much the same as you have hear. but actually print them out and play with them! it's pretty fun and crazy to design decks around YOU! you should have fun, create the decks and leave em marked as prototypes then post them on here and have your walker in the description! FIRE AWAY my minions!
January 6, 2012 1:50 p.m.
Yeah I realize that 9 is somewhat hard to get, but its at 9 or more cards so that you have a full hand, draw a card, and then bounce one of your own permanents to flip her. It is supposed to be relatively hard to get her to flip because her +1 ability is actually amazing and so is her -5 against any creature deck.
January 6, 2012 1:55 p.m.
Halidir_Orveck says... #28
@ 2austin5 your first two abilities are sound as a pound as long as the Spirits are only one color and 1/1s flyers however the ultimate is well a rather too ultimate. It might as well say win the game. If you make destroy all nonland permanents that would be more than fine but the fact that you not only clear your opponents field but you also get to take all of their stuff and! you do not have to kill all your stuff.

3 Loyalty
+2 Draw a card, then put a card from your hand on the bottom of your library
+1 Scry 3
-4 Search your library for a card and put that card into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
-9 Shuffle your graveyard and hand into your library.Choose one - Draw seven cards; or search your library for up to three cards, put those cards into your hand, then shuffle your library.
This walker is actually part of a set I'm designing through MSE which thematically involves temporal distortion/manipulation and planar instability. I want some opinions on it. It's definitely powerful, but the power is limited to positive draw without hurting the opponent directly.

@ [Epochalyptik] I like this a lot! the only thing i have to say about this walker is 4x Laboratory Maniac and 4x Tunnel Vision ..........WIN!

Halidir_Orveck says... #31
cut the -9 ability and take his cost to UUBB just because he is so powerful
January 6, 2012 2:21 p.m.
Epochalyptik says... #32
I was toying with the idea of bumping it up to -11, but I don't know if that's too unreachable. I like the idea of walkers having ultimates, but this one has been difficult to think through. She's supposed to be more of a utility, and I don't want to hinder that too much (but at the same time I don't want it brokenly powerful).
January 6, 2012 2:25 p.m.
Halidir_Orveck says... #33
well i like the cool draw engine its kind of like a slow rolling tutor or even Gifts Ungiven which i think we all can agree is really fun as long as it's being played at sorcery speedI figure your gonna drop this and +2 then next turn are going to -4 then plus +2 again i just like the way it flows
January 6, 2012 2:41 p.m.
Epochalyptik says... #34
Initially the tutor was set at -3, but I decided that was too cheap and immediately available, so I increased the cost.
I also didn't want to mana cost to be poorly balanced, and I feel the color demand reflects the power and flavor.

in the -12 for Whistin you shuffle them into your library it is supposed to read-
-12: You get an emblem that says "If you would lose the game instead you shuffle all cards you own into your library then draw 7 cards, remove all counters and emblems from you, and reset your life to 20."
January 6, 2012 2:58 p.m.
Epochalyptik says... #37
One of the premises of planeswalker design is that they should be able to function in any board state, so I think the additional costs on Varillius might be a bit much (good flavor, though).
It seems like you're trying to balance power by slowing the cards down with activation costs. However, you want to be careful not to make the latter abilities unreachable in terms of expense.

how about this instead?

I would easily run four in a 5 color deck. although I think the second ability feels more powerful then the ultimate.
January 6, 2012 3:51 p.m.
Epochalyptik says... #42
@ SwiftDeath: I feel like that's going the opposite direction now. The abilities are a bit too good for their price. Damage for increased loyalty is great, and a -1 Sign in Blood is also great.
@ Halidir_Orveck: Looks good. The +1 might be a bit too powerful for its cost and how available it is (you can play your card on turn 3...).

Mazil Enraged RWU (1 Loyalty)
0: Discard a card at random, then put a number of loyalty counters on Mazil Enraged equal to the converted mana cost of the discarded card
-X: You get an emblem with: "Whenever an opponent casts a spell, if Mazil Enraged is on the battlefield, you may have Mazil Enraged deal X damage to that player"

What do you think? The -X is probably a bit tricky to make work. Any suggestions on how it could go?

I think you should have it start at 2 loyalty and have the 0 ability become -1.
