Will There Ever Be New Movies Starring Red Sonja and Vampirella?

Red Sonja and Vampirella are two characters who are well-known to fans of comics, but have not yet gained popularity with mainstream audiences. There have, in fact, been films made of both characters, but they were both low-budget films that are not well-remembered today.

Therefore, I wonder if, with comic book films now being very popular, there shall be new films featuring these two iconic heroines. If obscure and minor characters such as Ant-Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Suicide Squad can have films, I see no reason why these two cannot have films, as well.

I am certain that some viewers may dislike the fact that Red Sonja and Vampirella usually wear skimpy clothing, but Aquaman and Thor were not shy about showing the titular characters of those films topless, so it would be hypocritical to complain about Red Sonja or Vampirella being scantily-clad, and I also believe the fact that they are both tough and fierce warriors should be more important than how they are dressed.

What does everyone else say about this? Will there ever be new films featuring Red Sonja and Vampirella?

Conan the Barbarian was re-acquired by Marvel in 2018 after 15 years of print runs by Dark Horse, but Red Sonja is not included in that deal and is now held by another publisher. While Conan is entirely possible to appear in the future of the MCU, the current trajectory of the phases and projects announced doesn’t seem like he would be any time soon. As for Red Sonja, that’s very unlikely at this point since she’s no longer Marvel property.

Azdranax Marvel Comics might have the rights to publish comics about Conan, but Disney/Marvel does not have the film rights to the character or stories. There were some discussions a while back of Amazon or HBO making a Conan TV show, based on Howard's original extremely violent original stories, but it seems that has been relegated to development hell. Which really is for the best--the Howard's Conan is brutal, violent, and frankly, too primal for the tone of the MCU.

As for the other characters raised, who knows. Marvel loves to introduce random super heroes or otherwise reference them in the background or cameos. I'd say no one is really off limits, provided they have the film rights to the characters.

Caerwyn thanks for the clarification, I was under the impression that the rights transferred to Marvel encompassed all forms of media. I’d certainly have to agree with you on the tone of the original comics as well, especially Red Sonja’s origin story. That’s certainly well outside of Disney’s comfort zone.

Well, Conan doesn't fit the MCU continuum. An HBO series would make me so pumped though, since they could do whatever. Although I'd be seeing red since people would be saying: "are they trying to copy GoT or something?", except without the same Arthurian tale perspective. Marvel has the best financial backing to do it right though... I actually enjoyed the Jason Momoa Conan for what it was. It would be interesting in the title 9ish age we live in. I think we could all use the addition of the years when the oceans drank Atlantis & the rise of the sons of Aryas
