Why Are the Rings in 3-Ring Binders Not in the Center?

Some 3-ring binders have the rings exactly in the center of the binder, but most have the rings slightly off-center, and that annoys me greatly, since I am very fond of symmetry.

What does everyone else say about this? Why are the rings in most 3-ring binders not in the center?

They fold better if the rings are off-center. That extra panel on the non-ring side serves as a spine, allowing you to keep your papers flat on the short side and fold the long side around on top of them. When the rings are in the middle, folding them means your papers rotate while you fold.

Particularly when dealing with very large binders with hundreds to thousands of pages, that extra movement can make it difficult to fold and results in additional, unnecessary wear and tear on the pages.

I do not reccomend 3 ring binders for keeping large quantity of cards. It's been my experience that they tend to dent/damage cards if stored incorrectly or if they're just too full.

Caerwyn, that does make sense.

RNR_Gaming, I was referring to 3-ring binders in general, not specifically for storing cards. What do you use to store large quantities of cards?

Boxes and foam for rares under 20. Ultra pro portfolios for high end stuff not in decks.

RNR_Gaming, that is very similar to what I do; I have all my rares and mythic rares in a binder, as well as any commons and uncommons that are worth more than $1.00; all others cards, I keep in a box under my bed.
