The Oscars

Well, that happened.

I think Emma Stone should have waited to say that she still had her envelope, until an explanation had been given for the mix up.

What a shame that the producers of Moonlight had their moment hijacked by a stupid mistake.

Apparently there are two copies of each envelope, one on either side of the stage.

That is such a dumb idea, as it turns out.

They announced La La Land as the Best Picture - always the last and biggest Oscar of the night.

In the middle of the producers giving their thank you speeches for La La Land stage managers started speaking to all the stars on the stage.

The speeches stopped and one of the producers announced to the audience that a mistake had been made, and Moonlight had won the Best Picture. He held up the winning card to show that it was not a trick.

Then the producers of Moonlight had to scramble to the stage in shock and do their best with their speeches, which no one was now paying much attention to.

Later it turned out that the wrong envelope had been given to the presenters. One that announced Emma Stone as the winner for best female actor.

I feel so bad for both parties! It must have been a shock for both the producers and actors of La La Land and Moonlight to have thought they won/lost and then they actually did not. It seems pretty incompetent to me to mess up the results for the biggest award of the night.

Conspiracy theory: it was done on purpose to cause more hype on social media and get more people talking about it, leading to more people buying/renting both movies. =O
