This years marks the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, one of the greatest franchises ever. In fact, I will be bold enough to say that it is one of the most famous and influential franchises ever, other than Star Trek and Lord of the Rings. Therefore, I am certain that both Lucasfilm and the fans will wish to celebrate this momentous occasion, likely with many events, limited edition merchandise, and (hopefully) a re-release of the unaltered theatrical versions of original trilogy.

Is anyone else here excited about this? I certainly am, because I have been a fan of Star Wars for much of my life, and am very glad that it has been able to remain popular for so long. I really hope that the expanded universe is mentioned during the celebrations, because it existed for at least twenty, nearly thirty, years, and was a significant aspect of the franchise for much of its history. I expect that there shall be some mention of the anniversary at Comic-Con, and the release of The Last Jedi shall be several months after the anniversary, so I would not be surprised if that film shall contain references to the original trilogy.

What does everyone else say about this? What do you believe Lucasfilm will do to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, and are you excited for it?

SUPER-excited! Especially for the new action figures ... which will unfortunately have to compete with Magic cards for my cash :-/

I hope there's a new Chewbacca figure, Chewbacca is my jam. I didn't see any picture of him on the link, but he may have just been hidden behind Darth Vader.

Also, Anakin absolutely did do something wrong, he killed the Jedi younglings.

Ryjo,
Chewie's in.

They're doing the First 12 (i.e., the initial twelve figures done back in '78): Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Han Solo, R2-D2, C-3PO, Tusken Raider, Jawa, Stormtrooper, Death Star Commander, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Chewbacca.
