Q: turning lands into creatures

Asked by zigkid3 9 years ago

I was looking up land destruction decks recently. Some intersting I noticed was to use cards like Liquimetal Coating to turn a permanent (in this case a land) into an artifact and then to use normal artifact destruction.

However I was wondering what would happen in this case:Say you use Liquimetal Coating to turn a land into an artifact (or any other card with the same effect). What would happen if you then used Sydri, Galvanic Genius to turn the artifact land into an artifact land creature (or similar cards with the same effect). Since lands don't have a converted mana cost would it become a 0/0 creature and instantly die?

In which case if there were other ways as well to turn a land into a creature with power and toughness equal to it's cost would it just be a 0/0 and instantly die? Thus destroying the land.

Indeed. Proceed to smoke weed. Never have a want. Never have a need.

Mycosynth Lattice and March of the Machines works too, although you need to get an anthem out to not lose your own.

What would happen if you Liquimetal Coating a Paradox Haze and then Karn, Silver Golem it? Would it fall off the player? Would it then get instantly put into a graveyard because it's not enchanting anything?

You are correct in thinking that turning lands into creatures with sydrii, after they are artifacts, will kill them, unless something affects their P/T.

I use it in a commander deck with Mycosynth Lattice and an infinite mana generator

@MagicalHacker it would be a 3/3 artifact enchantment creature until the end of turn. Not sure if it would fall off. To the Google!

Rules questions should be asked in the Q&A, which is linked in the header. I can't convert this thread to a Q&A question, so I'm moving it to BE.

Okay, it's cool to know that it would work. As for MagicalHacker's scenario. I don't think it'd fall of as an enchantment because liquimetal coating says "in addition to its other types" meaning it's still an enchantment as well. So it'd be a 3/3 Artifact enchantment creature. similar to enchantment creatures in standard right now I would think.

From what I heard, if an equipment becomes a creature, it can't be equipped to anything until its no longer a creature. So I figured there might be some overlap...

I'm gonna go ahead and ask this in the Q&A though. Here's the link for anyone curious enough to subscribe via the button next to the comment box: What happens when Paradox Haze becomes a creature?

You turn Ajani, Mentor of Heroes into a creature, attach Illusionist's Bracers to him, then combo out with Sage of Hours
