Need Help with Countering and Redirecting

Asked by BubbleMahn 9 years ago

I have a question regarding the countering of an opponent's counter spells. Let's say I cast a Mind Sculpt and my opponent casts a Negate . In response to their Negate , I play Dispel , and then my opponent casts a Dispel of their own in response to mine. Can I cast Redirect to change the target of their Dispel to the Negate they cast in response to my Mind Sculpt ?

So basically it goes like this on the stack: 1. My Mind Sculpt 2. Opponent's Negate 3. My Dispel targeting their Negate 4. Opponent's Dispel targeting my Dispel 5. My Redirect , making their Dispel target their own Negate .

Wouldn't that mean that both of our Dispel would target and successfully counter the opponent's Negate (if my redirect resolves)? Would this work as long as I'm redirecting using an opponent's counter spell that involves countering instant/noncreature spells? (Sorry for the mouthful, just want to be crystal clear.)

Rules questions should be asked in the Q&A, which is linked in the header. I can't convert this thread to a Q&A question, so I'm moving it to BE.

Yes, this works the way you describe.

Don't forget that you can Redirect a spell's tat get to Redirect itself.
