Lighting Bolt

Hello guys, I've a question...I use a Lightning Bolt on a Tarmogoyf 4/5 in my 1st main phase. During combat step I block it with a Ash Zealot 2/2, Tarmo dies? When damage of a Bolt is erased?
Was there already an Instant in a graveyard? If not, after Lightning Bolt resolves Goyf will be a 5/6 with 3 damage marked on it, so Ash Zealot won't kill it in combat.

You haven't given us enough information about what is in the graveyard.

I thought this question was about damage removal, but I reliase now that you might be unable to kill goyf in the scenario you said because the bolt may buff it.

Why would you not just block it with the zealot and then in response to declaring blockers cast the bolt? That removes the problem.
Anyway, damage remains until the cleanup step which is right at the end of your turn. This could have probably gone in the Q&A section.
