Films/Television Series that You Would Like to See Released on DVD/Blu-Ray

Most films and television series are released on home video at some point after their creation, but there are some that have never been released, as unusual as that may be. Additionally, with the advent of the blu-ray disc format (which is now over a decade old), many films and television series have been re-released in that format, yet some still have not been.

Therefore, I shall start this thread to discuss films and television series that either have not yet been released on blu-ray or have not been released on home video, at all.

First, I shall mention media that have never been released on home video in any form.

Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys is an animated television series from the 1990's, and has never been released on home video, as far as I am aware, which is very unfortunate, as I would purchase it in an instant if it were. It was part of the "anthropomorphic superheroes" trend that was popular during that decade, and I enjoyed it very much, so I am very sad to see that it is very obscure, today.

The Star Wars Holiday Special was shown on television only once, and has never been released on home video, because George Lucas considers it to be an embarrassment. I have seen it, and I actually liked it; while it certainly was not of the same quality as the original trilogy, it was released only a year after A New Hope, a full two years before The Empire Strikes Back, so any addition to the Star Wars franchise was welcome at that time, especially since it was very uncertain at that time if there would ever be a sequel to the original film. I know that there are some die-hard Star Wars fans who would like to see it released on home video, and, now that Disney has acquired Lucasfilm, I do hope that they take that desire into consideration.

Next, I shall discuss films or television series that have been released on DVD, but not on blu-ray.

The Iron Giant, an underrated masterpiece, in my mind, was released on DVD, but, for many years, did not have a blu-ray release, until now, as it shall finally be released on blu-ray in September of this year, which has been far too long of a wait, in my mind, especially considering that Space Jam, another film from Warner Bros., was released on blu-ray several years ago.

Several other animated films, including Balto, The Brave Little Toaster, The Swan Princess, and Titan, A.E., have all been released on DVD, but not on blu-ray, a format from which I believe that they would benefit greatly.

Disney's The Black Cauldron also has been released on DVD, but not blu-ray, and I would very much like to see how that film would look in high definition. That film is very different from most Disney films in that it is very dark and somber compared to the others, and it was the first to not be a musical; essentially, it was Disney's first significant attempt to appeal to older audiences by joining the trend of dark fantasy stories that were popular during the late 1970's and 1980's.

On that subject, the 1977 animated adaptation of The Hobbit and the 1980 animated adaptation of Return of the King have not been released on blu-ray, which is even more unusual considering that the 1978 animated Lord of the Rings film and The Last Unicorn, which was also made by Rankin/Bass, have been released on blu-ray, and I am certain that their unique art style would look amazing in high definition.

What does everyone else here have to say on this subject? What are some films and television series that you would like to see released on DVD or blu-ray?

I wish there were a Blu-Ray release of Avatar: the Last Airbender.

All very solid points, but I gotta say that vault hit the nail I the head with this one.

In an attempt to try to add something to the conversation, I wanted to complain about no Blu-Ray for The Sword in the Stone, The Road to El Dorado, or Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, but let's just say now I'm waiting for a package in the mail.

vault, I agree that the lack of a blu-ray release for A:tLA does seem to be very odd, given its popularity, currently.

Two other animated series that I wish to see on blu-ray are the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Swat Kats, as those are two more of my favorite television series from my childhood, and I believe that they would look very nice in high definition.
