block sacrfice? rules help

Asked by magicbullet 9 years ago

I was told I can block with Sakura-Tribe Elder then sacrifice for the land. however when looking at the rules regarding Mogg Fanatic it doesn't seem like this is doable.

please help

Please ask rules questions in the Q&A.

In both cases you can sacrifice them after blocking.

509.1h An attacking creature with one or more creatures declared as blockers for it becomes a blocked creature; one with no creatures declared as blockers for it becomes an unblocked creature. This remains unchanged until the creature is removed from combat, an effect says that it becomes blocked or unblocked, or the combat phase ends, whichever comes first. A creature remains blocked even if all the creatures blocking it are removed from combat.

Yes, and unless it has trample, no damage would be done to you

The rules regarding Mogg Fanatic clarify that you may not deal combat damage and sacrifice Mogg Fanatic . Either combat damage is dealt and Mogg Fanatic is destroyed as a state-based action before you can activate the ability, or Mogg Fanatic 's ability is activated and it is no longer on the battlefield to deal combat damage.

However, once blocked, an attacking creature remains blocked for the rest of combat. Removing the blocker does not change this; the attacker won't deal combat damage unless it has trample.

Yeah, you can sacrifice them, but they don't deal combat damage. However damage used to go on the stack, meaning you COULD block, deal combat damage, and sacrifice; but not anymore.
