A weird combo question.

Asked by vomdur 9 years ago

Hey there my friends and i were playing a 4 player game and i had just tossed together a Scarecrow deck for funzies... it was terrible up to the point where i had Rite of Replication in my hand and a Reaper King + Mikaeus, the Unhallowed on the field.

Now after i played this and we talked it out we came down to this conclusion. (which i am happy with just making sure we got it right)

playing the Rite of Replication with its kicker on the Reaper King gives me 5 of them simultaneously meaning i get to destroy 5 permanents from the original and then 4 for each one from the rite right? being a total of 25 permanents i get to blow up. Then the legendary rule kicks in destroys 5 of them but the undying from Mikaeus, the Unhallowed pops one at a time letting me destroy another 5 permanents right?

so short form Reaper King + Rite of Replication + Mikaeus, the Unhallowed = destroy 30 permanents?

Rite of Replication creates tokens, so you would not be able to bring them back with undying. You could get rid of the original Reaper King and have it come back with undying to destroy another permanent though.

Rules questions should be asked in the Q&A, which is linked in the header. I can't convert this thread to a Q&A question, so I'm moving it to BE.

Note that the legend rule doesn't destroy anything. The extra permanents are simply put into their owner's graveyard.

Thread can be closed. I was looking for a way to close it myself and am either blind or there isnt one. (leaning towards the blind)

There is no way to close threads.

Thats why Im so high ranking, from telling people to stop necrobumping threads.

Epochalyptyk: the legenary rule says that each player may only control one legendary creature with the same name at a time. *if a player controls more than one legendary creature with the same name, that player sacrifices creatures until they control only one"

@Maringam: Sacrificing and destroying creatures are two different things. So Epoch is right.

Maringam: That changes nothing. You still end up with only one, and since tokens cease to exist once they change zones, nothing really happens if you sac the tokens, or the original.

@Maringam: The legend rule causes neither sacrifice nor destruction.

704.5k If a player controls two or more legendary permanents with the same name, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners' graveyards. This is called the "legend rule".

Epochalyptik is right they are neither saced or destroyed
