Zurgo Helmsmasher EDH with some wild shenanigans!

I've been wanting to build a deck around Zurgo for quite some time. The thing that drew me to Zurgo was how wild he was. Typically, I play a slower, build up my forces type of game and I rarely try to draw attention to myself. So in order to play out of my comfort zone, I chose Zurgo for his wild and crazy style. He attacks each turn, if able, and is indestructible on your turn. With haste, it's an immediate problem for anyone he meets on the battlefield.

When we power up Zurgo with the artifacts and equip him with Assault Suit he becomes a wild and crazy general to ruin the politics of the game by forcing everyone to attack each other.

The best part? When creatures decide to chump block, he gets even bigger! So more power for more damage. What else could you want in a general?

Voltron

The obvious strategy with this deck is to assemble your Voltron machine (Zurgo Helmsmasher) and beat face. But in the off chance you can't get that going, you can start by destroying your opponents lands.

Land Destruction

There are 11 land destruction cards in this deck (13 if you include Faultgrinder and Ajani Vengeant. Oracle of Bones even helps you cast one for free! So your playgroup has to determine if they want to lose a land or if they want a 5/3 with haste coming at them as soon as he hits the board. And if the chosen player doesn't help you by getting a free spell? Well you can always come back and hit them with the land destruction anyway!

Built in Damage

There are other ways of annoying your opponents with this deck as well. It's built to be a constant stream of damage from start to finish. Using cards like:

Burning Sun's Avatar - 3 damage to target creature and 3 damage to target player when he comes in.

Hellrider - 1 damage per attacking creature. You're going to want to attack. A lot. Like a lot, a lot.

Mogis, God of Slaughter - 2 damage each opponents upkeep or sac a creature

Ob Nixilis, the Fallen - 3 damage and 3 counters when a land comes in? Yes, please!

Pharagax Giant - 5 damage to everyone or extra counters? I'll take it.

Artifact and Creature Control

If you feel like there is a pesky artifact on the field, you can always use one of your land destruction spells to take one out or a few other cards like:

Defiant Ogre - artifact control or a 1/1 counter

Reckless Reveler - sac for artifact removal and setting up ....

Skirsdag High Priest - morbid for a 5/5 demon giving you another creature to beat face with

Necropolis Regent - more 1/1 counters for creatures that are dealing damage

The Scorpion God - putting -1/-1 counters on creatures and card draw when those creatures die. Also a great way to trigger morbid

Shenanigans

Last but not least, the wild shenanigans. When you feel like you need to just board wipe in a fun way try cards like:

World at War - more combat, rebound and do it again. I need more combat!

Warp World - need to clear the field just to mix it up? Well, I'm your huckleberry. More shenanigans to mix up those boring commander games. Hopefully you can pull out this next card to speed up the game

Havoc Festival - no more life gain from those white decks and everyone is losing life at an accelerated rate!

Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded - take everyone's creatures and use them against them!
