Zur, Lockout Magistrate

Commander / EDH

KingErielus

INTRODUCTION

This is my Zur Enchantment Deck! This deck was originally just an Esper deck that revolved around an infinite combo with Mikaeus and a lot of artifacts, however, I learned to appreciate Zur's ability and it actually won my affection, and even though I can't win with an infinite combo in this deck, it can win pretty easily with an almost infinite combo.

This Deck is essentially a control deck. You have a lot of cards that revolve around taking certain luxuries away from your opponents. Eidolon of Rhetoric takes away massive turns from your opponents. Energy Flux is essentially is a long-term board wipe for artifacts. Solemnity destroys +1/+1 Counter decks completely. And there are plenty of Counterspells if your opponents play something you don't like. However, there's more to this deck than simply control. This deck is based around your commander. And you'll notice that most of my enchantments cost 3 or less to play, that because Swinging with Zur is crucial even if she'll die (obviously the scenario dictates how crucial it is). Once you swing with Zur you have an instant problem-solving play. IF your opponent has a ginormous creature out, remove it with Stasis Snare. If your opponent has something bigger than Zur, make Zur bigger with Ethereal Armor or Eidolon of Countless Battles. Generally Swinging with Zur increases your chances of ZUR-vival... hehe.

TUTORS

As you'll also notice, I've placed some odd tutors in this deck, but like most of my enchantments, you're able to simply pay the transmute cost which is also 3 and look for just about any enchantment. I wanted my tutors to be cheap, but also to have the ability to search for exactly what you need in a certain scenario. Diabolic Tutor is just a classic, and it's cheap, and Open the Armory I already had. But you'll notice that most of these tutors have other effects if you play them normally, which is why I chose to go with Transmute cards. BEcause either you need a certain enchantment, or you just counter something. It's multiple uses apply to many different scenarios and I like the diversity.

PLAYING THE DECK

Now, when it comes to general gameplay, this deck can be slow at times unless you've got the mana to do things. Generally, if you're tight for mana, playing control is going to win you some time in the long run. the first thing you want to do, or at least as soon as you can, play Zur. If you can't get him out before turn 5, play control, and play as defensive as possible. If you can, play lockdown RIGHT AWAY. After you play Zur, you want to start looking for ways to draw loads of cards. My favorite way is to swing with Zur and put Necropotence on the field. If you know your opponent runs little to no control and has no board wipes in their hand, the turn after you should pay 20 life, draw 20 cards, and then swing, tutoring for Empyrial Armor, and it's usually an instant win. If you have the ability to make Zur unblockable then you're guaranteed a win. The only downside you Zur is having to wait turns, and the fact that you have to make her hexproof, she doesn't come with it. Read your opponents, and play at least 3 turns ahead. It's easier after you've locked the board down, so look for ways to do that before you buff Zur for Lethal. So far, I haven't done this, but with the PERFECT hand, Zur can swing for Lethal on turn 3. But this hand is impossible to draw.
