Sorcery (1)

How this works: you get out a lot of zuberas, keep yourself alive with Ensnaring Bridge, then sac them all with Mirror Entity X=0 or Devouring Greed. Since they all have 1 power, you can swing in, then make them huge with Mirror Entity. It wins sometimes, but don't expect to win a Pro Tour with your friendly neighborhood zuberas.

If you want to budget it, run 2 more City of Brass and another Plains and Swamp instead of Cavern of Souls, Wrath of God over Damnation and your removal spell of choice over Ensnaring Bridge. Also, switch Thoughtseize out for Duress.

Inces_Velus: I don't care about my zuberas being larger, as I am going to sacrifice them anyway, and Phantasmal Image has more versatility, as it can be a zubera that has the dying trigger, or an opponent's best creature. It's also the 2 mana vs 3 mana that is the problem. I would use the Automaton in a tribal deck that didn't have a lord and wanted to keep the creatures on the battlefield.

I like this- Have you considered Enduring Renewal Athreos, God of Passage and repeatable sac outlets for shenanigans?

July 7, 2016 11:49 a.m.

@lagotripha: I think I could probably put in an Athreos or 2, but Enduring Renewal is hard to play around and only helps when the deck is winning already. Thanks for the suggestions!

What are the lands in the sideboard for-- Blood Moon? Looks like a fun deck, never even heard of Zuberas, but I love the way you've built it!

July 13, 2016 4:08 p.m.

@abby315: Exactly! Since Blood Moon really hurts, I need the basics to add to my chances of winning. Also, if I'm bringing in several noncreature cards, I side them in for Ancient Ziggurat.

I feel like Collected Company is too good a card to not play in here, especially considering the CMC of everything and how many Zuberas you want on the field at a time. Great job otherwise! +1

@Happymaster19: If I had the money for AEther Vials, I'd try them, but they don't seem to be necessary to the deck.

Seems like Rally the Ancestors would do you well if you play a grindy game

July 31, 2016 9:09 a.m.

@PyroMechanical: I would probably run Return to the Ranks over Rally, but there really isn't much of a place for either.

I really like the deck, it seems super sweet and fun, and most people definitely won't know what you're doing until it's too late. The only thing I would recommend is cutting the Ancient Ziggurats, I think they're a little clunky since they can't cast your Devouring Greed or Ensnaring Bridges, which is a problem since that means you only have seventeen lands that can cast your three and four drops. Maybe some more City of Brass, or Tri-Color lands? I'm not really sure. But I like the deck, keep at it!

August 4, 2016 4:01 p.m.

@KingCandyII: That's why I run Urborg. The Ziggurats can be annoying, but I don't want to run so many lands that hurt me; and I can't really run lands that enter tapped that can't give me all of my colors. They are probably the worst of my lands, though, so if I ever find a workable alternative I'll cut them.

love a good zubera genocide list, but id definitely run Birds of Paradise over the black zubera
Abzan Ascendancy and Immortal Servitude could be cool in the sideboard for grinding

MohenjoDaro says... #17

Celestial Dawn would make everything just need white mana and all your lands would be plains. Chromatic Lantern would just give you any color mana you need. Chromatic lantern would be better (in my opinion) and you could add 3 of them, take out 1 Ancient Ziggurat and both Birds of Paradise.

lagotripha says... #18

But birds are a one drop that provides fixing and so much tempo? I'd keep them, but celestial/chromatic might be nice if you see a lot of Blood Moon. Aether Hub/Tendo Ice Bridge/Mirrodin's Core might help if its a super major issue, but it tested fine for me.

Or any Wrath of God effect.

October 10, 2016 7:04 p.m.

@MohenjoDaro: I haven't been having very many mana or color problems at all, and since Chromatic Lantern and Celestial Dawn do very little besides help with fixing, I would rather run relevant cards or more zuberas. I know people don't like Ancient Ziggurat, but I have few other options.

phazing says... #23

Bro, as a massive fan of underused tribals I approve.

October 16, 2016 11:16 p.m.

@Laszlokh: I like the idea of wraths and added one, but I can't figure out what to cut to add another. Do you have any suggestions?

@wolfhead: I added the Orchards because I think they will be more useful than the Ziggurats. However, I can't easily run more than 2 because drawing more than one is punishing. If only they'd make a Zubera land like Sliver Hive already!

October 17, 2016 5:08 p.m.

MohenjoDaro says... #25

I think you could drop Ensnaring Bridge for one more Wrath of God. It would let you destroy everything if they're able to attack.

October 17, 2016 5:47 p.m.

wolfhead says... #26

omg a "zubera hive" land would be so cool!!

if youre trying to add another wrath i agree with mohenjo,
though for wrath #3 id start going into Supreme Verdict
not interacting with regeneration can be a pain against elves and grave trolls,
but its not too hard to find a turn where they spread themselves too thin,
and uncounterable is still an amazing mechanic even in the mostly-blueless depths of the modern format

I was thinking green could go well in here, Collected Company and Aluren wouldnt be bad with zuberas

December 20, 2016 7:12 p.m.

MohenjoDaro says... #29

Wild Pair would also go well in the deck.

December 20, 2016 11:40 p.m.

@mlequesne: Company has been in and out for a while, and I can't decide how strong it is or what to cut for it. As for Aluren, it isn't legal in modern, unfortunately. Otherwise, I'd definitely play it.

@wolfhead: I just picked up a Supreme Verdict, but I'm finding it hard to make a cut for it. What would you recommend?

@MohenjoDaro: Wild Pair seems fun, but it is a lot of investment and by the time I hit turn 6 it isn't doing enough for me, especially since I would usually want to grab a Mirror Entity and can't hit that easily with Wild Pair.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I'm going to try to fit them in as best I can.

Bring to Light could be a helpful tutor for you, even with its relatively high CMC. You have the mana base to consistently converge for 4 colors, which means you could tutor for basically any creature or sorcery in your library and play it for free. Good way to grab Atheros, Mirror Entity, or Devouring Greed when you need them.

April 6, 2017 8:43 p.m.

Never heard of those weirdo creatures, nice combos tho! +1

June 3, 2017 8:34 p.m.

Funkydiscogod says... #35

What do you think of using Iname, Death Aspect to fill your graveyard with Zubera, and Immortal Servitude x=2 to flood the battlefield?

Or, Bloodbond March since you want the zubera to be die early and often.

DesArthes says... #36

Hi, nice deck. I thought Zuberas can be played only in pauper, because modern didnt add much more for this deck. But Atheros, Mirror entity and CoCompany speaks otherwise :-).

My tip: i could cut one (or 2) colors. Most obvious is probably red one, since you play only red zubera and nothing more, instead i will add black zubera or Phantasmal Image. And maybe i would change Ensnaring Bridge for Aether Vial.

August 16, 2017 4:24 a.m.

EnnilCeiswyr says... #37

DesArthes:I have played against this deck, and Ensnaring Bridge is very important. In addition to keeping you alive, it also helps in that you can still win pumping with Mirror Entity through it.
