"He can cause a lot of pain and do it with no fuss. That's all good, but I just wish he didn't do it to us!" -Ku-Ku, Akki poet.

Zo-Zu, the Punisher is not a fan of your opponents having lands. In fact, he hates it! So much, he has no problems punishing YOU for playing lands too! The deck is filled with spells to punish your opponents for putting land on the field, and with a little encouragement from land destruction, he keeps your opponents playing fresh lands. He'll quickly pick away at everyone's life total, until they're close enough to death to be burned with some easy spells!

This deck represents the true, reckless nature of playing a mono-red deck. Hope you enjoy!

Any help or suggestions are appreciated and encouraged!

Awesome build! You might like a few additions though! To really screw mana over(if rich): Blood Moon and Magus of the Moon. Now backing away from pricy additions a Fire Servant might be worthwhile in here. Goblin Sharpshooter is a nice way to ping out token swarms. And since Zozu will have a target on him: Swiftfoot Boots, Mask of Avacyn, Lightning Greaves, Whispersilk Cloak, Darksteel Plate, etc would help keep him alive. Inferno Titan would be nuts in here too! I might recomend a few dragons too to really ruin any hope they have like Hoard-Smelter Dragon(this way mana rocks can't keep them alive) or Balefire Dragon/Utvara Hellkite(both are devastating). Awesome build and I hope you enjoy burning your way to a win(not easy in EDH!) and maybe something here helped ya out!

Hey thanks for the suggestion! Blood Moon has been on my list for a little while, and I am unsure as to why I didn't put my Fire Servant in the deck. And Horde-Smelter Dragon is a great controller. Thanks for the feedback!

No problem! I love to see awesome builds and this one definitely fits the bill. Yeah Hoard Smeter is really underrated tbh. Destroy any artifact for 4 mana and a boost(bonus!) repeatedly is a nice thing tbh.

What about something like Orbs of Warding or Urza's Armor to keep the damage dealt to you minimal while your opponents still take the full pings? They would be useless with Leyline of Punishment out, but it would keep you alive much longer.

May 27, 2016 3:22 p.m.

Suaz14 says... #5

Right on! Thanks for the suggestions! I had Orbs of Warding in the deck at one point, but just as you said, if Leyline of Punishment is out, it becomes a dead card (besides the hexproof part). But I'll put em on sideboard for if I'm going against another poke deck. Thanks!

I like this deck. Storm Cauldron would work wonders in here. Same with Burning Earth. You could also add the Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs + War's Toll combo for extra bang for your buck, but that's just a suggestion. Still, the cauldron would be beast.

Right on, thanks! Storm Cauldron would be fantastic in the deck, and I really like the Kazuul combo! I appreciate the help!

Roiling Terrain? Get a little (or a lot) of damage for nuking lands.

If you like Manabarbs why not also run Burning Earth.

Guilds and shards are the most common EDH decks, and they need all sorts of fancy lands.

I completely forgot to list it, but I have Burning Earth on my sideboard. Thank you!

Land killing is hilarious. Hidetsugu's Second Rite combos with Hidetsugu himself, so that might be something to consider for a quick kill out of nowhere.

Awesome, Thanks! Because of the 40 life, it will be hard to use this card, but I'll get it for sideboard when I play Two-Headed Giant with my Buddy and his mono black deck for Sorin Markov. Thanks!

Just keep in mind, if you use Dictate of the Twin Gods + Heartless Hidetsugu then it will kill any player with an even life total. Great for you, just play spells to put your opponents on an even number and you on an odd number and you win.

I do like this deck, it seems pretty solid, you just have to be able to destroy all of their things or it looks like you'll run into some issues. Pretty solid though, I like it.

November 27, 2016 12:54 p.m.

Suaz14 says... #16

Definitely! Heartless Hidetsugu with double damage is one of my favorite win cons. I also just acquired a Chaos Warp to deal with anything I can't burn or destroy. And it holds up pretty well to everything except for counter decks. Still looking for cards that can help me in that department, but not too sure if red has much for it. Thanks for the comment!

Hey, I really love this deck, this is basically exactly what I was looking for to play with my friends, was wondering how I could make this come to maybe $80 Or $90 instead of its current price, whats some good cards to sub out

December 6, 2016 4 a.m.

Suaz14 says... #20

Hey, thanks! Some cards that you can take out to bring the price a bit lower is Chandra, Torch of Defiance, Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle, Bonfire of the Damned, Apocalypse, Chandra Nalaar, Lightning Greaves and Ruination. These cards are not necessarily essential to the success of the deck, so these are the ones that can probably be subbed out for any other spells that can help keep the space. The greaves can be subbe out for Swiftfoot Boots, which are just a little pricier in terms of mana cost, but still get the job done. Chandra Torch of Defiance and Chandra Nalaar can be subbed out for any wheel effects such as Winds of Change or any useful burn spells. Valakut is a great utility card, however can be subbed out for a basic land. Ruination can be subbed out for a simple land destruction spell such as Pillage or Molten Rain. Apocalypse is great for removing indestructible or any huge threats on the board, and I use Bonfire of the Damned to get some extra umph in damage while controlling threats, however these can be subbed out with utility cards or other burn spells as well.

Removing these cards brought it down to about $89.37 all together, making it right within the range you were looking for. If any of these edits don't suit your fancy, you can add them into it at a later date. I really hoped this helped, and I wish you the best of luck! Thank you!

December 6, 2016 5:01 a.m.

This is perfect, I have always wanted to play this deck, but I didn't know what to take out, I have only made 2 decks before. I really love this, thanks for the help, can't wait to wreck everyone next time.

Wasn't sure exactly what card types you were looking to add to, so here are a few that I enjoy playing in red.

Ravenous Baboons, Avalanche Riders, and Ogre Arsonist.

Some LTB triggers include.. Fire Snake and Goblin Gardener.

December 8, 2016 9:37 p.m.

Suaz14 says... #24

Hey, thank you for the suggestions! I've been trying to stay more noncreature spell based, but you have pretty good taste in red spells!

December 9, 2016 10:46 a.m.

Adamaro says... #25

Thanks for the compliment Suaz14! Here are some more. Please excuse my need to recommend creature spells... It's my favorite card type. I'll be sure to include some non-creatures as well!

You'll probably want to be drawing cards while your opponents are forced to discard cards because they're missing land drops or just barely making the cut at 7 cards in hand. In any case Sandstone Oracle is a budget friendly draw spell. There are plenty of other better options too, but it was just a thought.

I'm not going to be cruel and "suggest" the cards above, that's a lot of clicking around for you to do. So I'll just leave the list here. Hopefully you see something that sparks some interest!

Awesome, thank you! Just ordered a Citadel of Pain today, and I really need a Mana Web. I also had a lot of the spells you had suggested in the deck (I believe I still have some of them in the deck). Thank you for the extra suggestions! I really appreciate it!

December 14, 2016 1:15 a.m.

Storm Cauldron seems hilariously mean. Forces opponents to get hit by Zo-Zu if they ever want to play anything again.

War's Toll is a fun little red enchantment that really punishes your opponent's lands by tapping them all whenever they play something. Also makes combat a little more interesting.

Keldon Firebombers resets your opponent so they will have to start playing more lands again.

Invader Parasite hits monocolored and even two-colored decks really hard; it's worth a spot in the 99.

From the Ashes is the sidegrade of Ruination. Your opponents can now replace all the lands they just lost, but then Zo-Zu can punish.

You should probably maindeck Burning Earth. Commander is a format with a lot of nonbasic lands; it'll do its job.

December 14, 2016 8:49 p.m.

To swap out, I suggest removing Arcbond, Magmaquake, Final Fortune, Increasing Vengeance, Radiate, and a Mountain.

MohenjoDaro, no need to apologize! Everybody makes mistakes haha. I'm guilty as everyone else is. Notice all my suggestions above that Suaz14 already had/used/etc.

Speaking of Suaz14, I've been testing out Treasonous Ogre, and I have to say, it has been the reason for victories. I would highly recommend it!

Austin_Smith_of_Cards Thanks! I have had great hopes of acquiring a Storm Cauldron as well as an Invader Parasite, but have not found it at my LGS or any trade binders. They are both rather cheap cards, I have just put off buying them in the hopes that I can find them for trade (I'm just going to bite the bullet and order them). I also think I am going to go with Mana Web over War's Toll as it does not force full aggro on me (in multiplayer). I also need to get my hands on From the Ashes as it is a much better than Ruination is in this deck. The reason that I do not mainboard Burning Earth, is that my playgroup doesn't use enough non-basic lands for it to be of much value. I usually put them main board for three-color and up.

Also, thank you Adamaro and MohenjoDaro for the comments, I really appreciate it! Also, Treasonous Ogre is another card that I've wanted to get a copy of. My buddy runs it in his Marchesa, the Black Rose deck, and it definitely wins games.

Terrain Generator could help you ramp when your commander isn't on the field, Ghost Quarter blows up their utility land and gives them a choice of taking 2 or a basic when Zo-Zu is out. Price of Progress is one of my favorite red cards when people have 3+ color decks. Reforge the Soul is one of the best red card draws. Vandalblast hoses all your opponents' artifact ramp.

April 4, 2017 12:46 p.m.

Mana Web!!! Make it more stax oriented! Tectonic Instability, Goblin Rabblemaster... It could be so cruel.

May 21, 2017 2:50 p.m.

I do have one suggestion if you are feeling extremely ballsy. Aggressive Mining. it is a double edge sword. it prevents you from playing lands so you wont get pinged by your commander but at same time you cant play lands for expensive stuff. and it does have a, shall we say, enticing offer of sacking a land to draw two cards. which does not sound so bad if you have a piss ton of lands out.

Basilisk Collar seems relevant. Nullify your life-loss, and gain it on everyone else's. Works good with your commander... works wonders with Heartless Hidetsugu.
