Had an interesting 1v1 play-through on this against an Edgar deck. That deck would probably run all over this one 8/10 times.

I had Stormbreath Dragon (not monstrous), Glorybringer and Zirilan of the Claw out. I had Glorybringer up a few turns and had exerted to clear some of the board by pinging and had kept things locked down with AEther Flash . My opponent had just tutored for Austere Command , but couldn't cast it on their turn. They had one creature untapped on their side and they were sitting at 30 life. I was sitting on 6 mana and had Final Fortune in my hand.

I tapped 3 and Zirilan to tutor out Tyrant's Familiar and swung. Tyrant's Familiar dealt with the one blocker and allowed all three to get through for 15 (after Tyrant's Familiar added +2/+2). In my second main phase I use the Final Fortune with my remaining 3 mana. After untapping, I tutor again with Zirilan of the Claw and go get Mana-Charged Dragon . With my remaining three mana I add +2/+0 to the Mana-Charged Dragon and I am able to swing for another 15, taking my appointment out.

This is exactly what this deck is designed to do - tutor for answers and a wincon. I don't think it will work often and it will struggle even more in multiplayer, but in 1v1, it is fun. I need to play test some more.

Hey, Dragon Tempest , Utvara Hellkite and Dragonmaster Outcast are among the best Dragon themed cards to play. Tempest is more ways to give Dragons haste including Zirilan as well do some damage to opponent or creature when you cheat Dragons into play. Utvara should always be your first Dragon to search for with Zirilan since haste means she will create a 6/6 Dragon when she attacks. Dragonmaster is good in multiplayer Commander because he's a possible repeatable source of Dragons. Utvrara and Dragonmaster are busted with Tempest.

Consider Gamble and Chaos Warp ? They're staple red cards since their effects are not something that traditionally red has access to (unconditional tutor and enchantment removal). More two drop mana rocks are helpful for ramp since Kirilan requires a lot of mana to get going. The two drop mana rocks you play don't have to make red mana since making red mana will not be a problem with so many Mountains. The mana rocks just need to create mana for ramp and in my opinion consider a lot of mana rocks? Mind Stone , Fellwar Stone , Thought Vessel , Ruby Medallion , Dragon's Hoard , Everflowing Chalice , Prismatic Lens ? Ashnod's Altar lets you make mana by sacing a Dragon or token copy before your end step, if it's going to die anyway might as well make some mana.

Thousand-Year Elixir can also give Zirilan haste as well as untap him to potentially use his ability another time during your turn or during an opponents turn. Tel-Jilad Stylus is helpful to put a Dragon back into your library after it attacks so it's not saced EOT. Dragon Mage is a very good Dragon when it has haste because red lacks many draw options and Mage is repeatable draw each time it hits an opponent. Dragon Tyrant is good when it has haste, hitting for 12 flying/trample damage.

Good luck with your deck.

I like the inclusion of the sac outlets and Feldon of the Third Path to get dragons back out of the graveyard. Have you considered cutting a few lands to make room for more dragons?

I'm also curious as to why you are running so many nonbasic lands in a mono red deck? I'm especially confused as to the inclusion of City of Brass , Command Tower , Mana Confluence , Path of Ancestry , and Reflecting Pool . You should consider adding High Market as another sac outlet for your dragons.

Thanks to everyone that commented for the great feedback.

There are a number of cards mentioned that are already on my acquire list that I want for the deck that I just didn't have handy because they are already in my Scion/Ur-Dragon deck or others. This includes Illusionist's Bracers , Flameshadow Conjuring , Dragonmaster Outcast , Thousand-Year Elixir , Dragon Tyrant , High Market and Tel-Jilad Stylus . I should have included a 'too acquire' list.

There are some cards I cut from my first draft simply do to overall mana curve. I always build my decks too high and so I deliberately go back and reassess everything 6 CMC and up. I found this to be the case when I cut Dragon Mage , Utvara Hellkite , and Scourge of Valkas (avoiding 3 colored in the casting cost...I know, I know, it's a mono deck, but I still find away to get locked there somehow). I also did find Scourge of Valkas meeting my 'answers' need when it was tutored, but I can see @TypicalTimmy's combo as fun shenanigans, so I might need to make room for them.

As for rocks, I had trimmed both Fellwar Stone and Ruby Medallion because I went more on utility in other areas. The same sort of went for Dragon's Hoard . i'd be interested in suggestion on what to cut for any of these. I did leave both Thought Vessel and Reliquary Tower deliberately out as the deck just never puts you in that position to need them.

The honest answer on the City of Brass , Command Tower , Mana Confluence , Path of Ancestry , and Reflecting Pool is I ran out of the unhinged mountains I wanted to use and need to get more :). The command tower was an easy add as it doesn't lose much aside from being affected by anything that targets non-basic lands. The Path of Ancestry was because I wanted the advantage of the scry and then the ping lands were because I need more unhinged mountains.

I had Gamble in the deck, but cut it in favor of others. Suggestions on what to pull out for it?

Chaos Warp is in the deck.

Land base is updated, but I have some other cards I need to cycle in and out. I'll post a legitimate update once I do that.

multimedia, you mentioned mana rocking up considerable. Suggestions for what to pull in place of all those mana rocks?

TypicalTimmy, I made room for Utvara Hellkite and Scourge of Valkas . I don't like the increase in mana curve, but the combo there-in is pretty devastating. I dropped Stormbreath Dragon and Demanding Dragon to make room.

Hey, you could upgrade the mana rocks that you're already playing? All except Sol Ring and Monolith of course. All the rocks I suggested ETB untapped. Dragon's Hoard for instance for the same mana cost has much more repeatable value than Vessel of Endless Rest . Hoard is both a mana rock and a draw engine. Mind Stone also has more value then Fire Diamond because Stone ETB untapped and can be sac to draw later on when you don't need ramp.

The mana rocks you play don't have to make red mana, it would nice if they did, but they don't have to because there's 31 Mountains here. Red mana is not a problem; the rocks just need to be able to make mana, colorless mana, for ramp to get Zirilan or another Dragon onto the battlefield faster. There's a lot of high CMC Dragons here; if Zirilan gets stuck in the Command Zone due to Commander cost or disrupted and you're unable to use his ability to cheat Dragons onto the battlefield then you want a backup plan to be able to cast Dragons. Mana rocks for ramp is a good backup plan. Semi-budget rocks such as Thran Dynamo and Gilded Lotus are good when playing lots of high CMC cards.

Cards like Mishra's Bauble and Urza's Bauble are fine, but I think they would be better as mana rocks. Blood Frenzy and Volcanic Offering are okay, but they're a one time shot spell and as a one time use they lose a lot of playability. One time effects from cards like Chaos Warp and Gamble are worth it because these effects for the mana cost are unique in red/powerful for red. Fling is fine if you have ways to repeatably cast it, but as a one time effect with only one Dragon it's very lackluster.

Consider Goblin Welder ? Welder, Feldon of the Third Path and Steel Hellkite have great interaction because Hellkite is an artifact Dragon. The tokens that Feldon creates are artifacts you can use one of these artifact creature tokens at instant speed with Welder to sac it to reanimate Hellkite or any other artifact. Welder can also be a way to reanimate an artifact sac/tuck outlet which you need on the battlefield otherwise the Dragon you cheat into play with Zirilan will be exiled end of your turn. Welder also helps to assemble the Monolith + Rings artifact combo. Solemn Simulacrum is very good with Welder and Feldon because he's an artifact who gives you value when he ETB and when he dies.

Cards like Welder and Feldon can benefit from cards that can put other cards into your graveyard. Consider adding Daretti, Scrap Savant , Faithless Looting and Gamble? Daretti is repeatable draw/graveyard enabler/reanimate artifact. Consider Tel-Jilad Stylus ? The most mana cost effective way to tuck a Dragon back into your library. Artifacts are honestly just as important for your deck's strategy then Dragons are.

Cards to consider adding:

  • Dragon's Hoard
  • Mind Stone
  • Fellwar Stone or Everflowing Chalice
  • Thran Dynamo or Gilded Lotus
  • Gamble
  • Goblin Welder
  • Daretti, Scrap Savant
  • Faithless Looting
  • Tel-Jilad Stylus

Cards to consider cutting:

  • Fire Diamond
  • Vessel of Endless Rest
  • Mishra's Bauble
  • Urza's Bauble
  • Blood Frenzy
  • Volcanic Offering
  • Fling
  • Whispersilk Cloak
  • Voyager Staff

Thanks for all the feedback, multimedia.

Tel-Jilad Stylus absolutely belongs in this deck. I can't believe I don't have one in my collection. Need to get one. It can easily replace Vessel of Endless Rest , but note that the Vessel was there for its ability to move something back to the library and less for its mana ability.

I've Fling in my maybe remove bucket for a while now. Its mainly in there less for its damage and more for the moving a Zirilan creature to the graveyard. Same thing for Voyager Staff .

I agree on the baubles. The deck has so little card draw, that's really the only reason for them to be in there, but they could go.

If you might be looking for Fling on a stick, you could think about adding Bloodshot Cyclops . Ol' Chuck there will let you sac the dragons you dig up each turn.

Oh...I like that thought on Bloodshot Cyclops , bushido_man96. My only concern is the CMC increase, but the potential repeatability is very nice.
