Once upon a time, I had a dream to make a Hydra tribal Commander deck. My initial commander for the deck was Animar, Soul of Elements, which made sense. There wasn't a single legendary Hydra with any synergy for the tribe, and Animar specifically benefited X-costed creatures more than anything else. Even when Gargos, Vicious Watcher was released, I didn't want to be locked into monogreen, or a 6-drop commander. I never ended up fully committing to the hydra tribal theme by the end, however.

When Zaxara was spoiled, I knew immediately what I was going to. Days after C21 released, I got my Otrimi precon and immediately gutted my old Animar deck for any cards that would still work well, combined it with any relevant cards from the precon and ordered most of the good hydra cards I was missing to really round it out.

Fast forward a relatively short amount of time and the deck is already in a spot I'm pretty happy with. I am missing some essential cards and better lands, but those are all in the maybeboard, giving me a goal to work towards for a while (as some of those cards are way too expensive for me at the moment.)
