Update 1 —Aug. 24, 2012

After playtest of shifterfox i moved felidar sovereign to the side board , removed a recumblent bliss and thinned out my soul sisters I added 2 serra ascendants, 3 fiend hunters and 3 oblivion rings, i also added 1 sunpetal grove

I also added ajani sunstriker twice and will test this and see if it helps or not

Not really a fan of life gain decks myself, but this looks like a good start. I would advise putting in these cards Chalice of Life  Flip , Soul Warden ,and Serra Avatar . It is a pretty good deck for casual play.

thanks, and what cards should i remove?

Maybe the 2 griffin guides, for the chalice of lifes, and replace the venser's journal for the avatar. Not sure what you could replace for the soul wardens. You might not need to replace them because of your essence wardens.

First thing I should tell you is that this deck is improperly classified. I don't know what format you plan on using it in, but it's certainly not standard.

Next, a general rule of deckbuilding is that consistency is good. You have a lot of 1- and 2-ofs, which makes your deck extremely inconsistent. If you can get more 3- and 4-ofs, then you'll be better off.

Then, there's your mana curve, which is the bar graph on the side of the page. You have a lot of three-drops. As a general rule, I try to have the same or fewer cards in each cost as the one lower than it. For example, since you have 4 one-drops, you should have 4 or fewer two-drops, and then 4 or fewer three-drops, etc.

Now let's discuss cards I believe should be cut. Jungle Shrine not only ETBs tapped, but it produces an unnecessary color of mana. Kazandu Refuge suffers from this same problem. Kabira Crossroads also ETBs tapped, and seems sort of slow. Since you only have 3 Angels, Seraph Sanctuary won't do much for you. card:Ajani's Mantra just seems a bit slow. card:Rune-Tail's Essence is useful, but I'm not sure it's worth inclusion, especially in the extremely inundated 3-slot. Vorapede is good on its own, but doesn't seem like it synergizes with the rest of the deck, and the same is true with Avacyn, Angel of Hope .

And now let's move to cards I think you should add. Primeval Titan is so incredibly good with Lifegift and Grazing Gladehart . Whispersilk Cloak will let you hit you hit your opponents with the humongous creatures you'll have from your life-gaining. Loxodon Warhammer is unbelievably strong with the beaters you'll have, effectively doubling their power and toughness with every attack. True Conviction makes every one of your creatures dangerous and helps you gain life. Razorverge Thicket , Sunpetal Grove , card:Avacyn's Pilgrim, and Birds of Paradise will all help improve your manabase. Also, I'm with keeblerz on the Soul Warden s, as they are very useful in lifegain, especially with Elspeth. Finally, Ajani, Caller of the Pride would be good in here, though I realize your being able to obtain it is unrealistic.

Other than that, I would just add more of every other card. You did a really good job on this deck for your first time; it's WAY better than the first deck I made. Nice job, dude. +1

You're welcome. I understand if you don't take some of my advice, as some of the cards I suggested adding can run on the expensive side, but I wish you luck in your deckbuilding :)

I didnt know what type of deck it is, just picked standard because that sounds obvious :D guess i cant play legal games with it? How can i see which are legal?

Just go to the deck editing page and choose "Casual", since nothing about this is really Standard.

I like where your head is at with this deck. U agree with some of the suggestions above though. Im going to be posting a cat based lifegain deck later on that u can take a look at as well, and it is standard legal.some suggestions i have are drop vorapede due to its lack of synergy. Think about adding another serra avatar, but i wouldnt run more than 2. Ajani cotp would be excellent in here although he is pricey. Birds of paradise is a great addition here. Maybe considder ajani sunstriker because of the lifelink? But these are only suggestions. Best of luck on the deck, and i think it is a solid foundation.

Well, i actually have ajani cotp foil , but cant update now, will update in september, ill change descriptioj so you can see my changes

Cards I would drop:

  1. Grazing Gladehart - A bit slow and expensive compared to your other options.
  2. Shattered Angel - By the time this hits the field, your opponent will likely be curving out. That makes the effect somewhat useless.
  3. War Report - This card is too slow and doesn't gain you enough life.
I'm also not a huge fan of Lifegift and card:Ajani's Mantra. You could also drop Vorapede (which doesn't fit your theme) and Wall of Reverence (which is a bit slow).

Add more of Ageless Entity and card:Ajani's Pridemate.

August 23, 2012 2:12 p.m.

Soul Warden and card:Soul's Attendant would be nice low-cost creatures that can gain you stupid amounts of life.

I think i keep life gift because thats an easy way to gain life, i find, For shattered angel i dont really know yet but otherwise i mostly agree :)

August 23, 2012 2:53 p.m.

Think of it this way: replacing Lifegift and Shattered Angel with the soul sisters would net you a lot more life in less time and mana.

August 23, 2012 2:57 p.m.

hespio says... #21

If you look at it THAT way... You're right :D

August 23, 2012 3:19 p.m.

It's something you get used to after building/changing a few decks. It reaches a point where every option is pretty good but you need to decide which is better. Think about it in terms of synergy for the rest of the deck, too. You have creatures like card:Ajani's Pridemate and Ageless Entity that work best when you already have fast, efficient lifegain engines set up.
