mtg, mtg cards, magic the gathering, gaming, geeks
first time i create a deck fully by myself, please give advice and don't break it down because it's my first try. Please let me know anything, really help a lot :)I must admit that im not rich :D so not getting tooooo expensive would be nice
Dont forget to +1 it if you like it :)
EXTRA UPDATE:For the moment i cant find thratusk, but i will maybe add him
After playtest of shifterfox i moved felidar sovereign to the side board , removed a recumblent bliss and thinned out my soul sistersI added 2 serra ascendants, 3 fiend hunters and 3 oblivion rings, i also added 1 sunpetal grove
I also added ajani sunstriker twice and will test this and see if it helps or not
First thing I should tell you is that this deck is improperly classified. I don't know what format you plan on using it in, but it's certainly not standard.
Next, a general rule of deckbuilding is that consistency is good. You have a lot of 1- and 2-ofs, which makes your deck extremely inconsistent. If you can get more 3- and 4-ofs, then you'll be better off.
Then, there's your mana curve, which is the bar graph on the side of the page. You have a lot of three-drops. As a general rule, I try to have the same or fewer cards in each cost as the one lower than it. For example, since you have 4 one-drops, you should have 4 or fewer two-drops, and then 4 or fewer three-drops, etc.
Now let's discuss cards I believe should be cut. Jungle Shrine not only ETBs tapped, but it produces an unnecessary color of mana. Kazandu Refuge suffers from this same problem. Kabira Crossroads also ETBs tapped, and seems sort of slow. Since you only have 3 Angels, Seraph Sanctuary won't do much for you. card:Ajani's Mantra just seems a bit slow. card:Rune-Tail's Essence is useful, but I'm not sure it's worth inclusion, especially in the extremely inundated 3-slot. Vorapede is good on its own, but doesn't seem like it synergizes with the rest of the deck, and the same is true with Avacyn, Angel of Hope .
And now let's move to cards I think you should add. Primeval Titan is so incredibly good with Lifegift and Grazing Gladehart . Whispersilk Cloak will let you hit you hit your opponents with the humongous creatures you'll have from your life-gaining. Loxodon Warhammer is unbelievably strong with the beaters you'll have, effectively doubling their power and toughness with every attack. True Conviction makes every one of your creatures dangerous and helps you gain life. Razorverge Thicket , Sunpetal Grove , card:Avacyn's Pilgrim, and Birds of Paradise will all help improve your manabase. Also, I'm with keeblerz on the Soul Warden s, as they are very useful in lifegain, especially with Elspeth. Finally, Ajani, Caller of the Pride would be good in here, though I realize your being able to obtain it is unrealistic.
Other than that, I would just add more of every other card. You did a really good job on this deck for your first time; it's WAY better than the first deck I made. Nice job, dude. +1
I like where your head is at with this deck. U agree with some of the suggestions above though. Im going to be posting a cat based lifegain deck later on that u can take a look at as well, and it is standard legal.some suggestions i have are drop vorapede due to its lack of synergy. Think about adding another serra avatar, but i wouldnt run more than 2. Ajani cotp would be excellent in here although he is pricey. Birds of paradise is a great addition here. Maybe considder ajani sunstriker because of the lifelink? But these are only suggestions. Best of luck on the deck, and i think it is a solid foundation.
Cards I would drop:
Add more of Ageless Entity and card:Ajani's Pridemate.
It's something you get used to after building/changing a few decks. It reaches a point where every option is pretty good but you need to decide which is better. Think about it in terms of synergy for the rest of the deck, too. You have creatures like card:Ajani's Pridemate and Ageless Entity that work best when you already have fast, efficient lifegain engines set up.
I personally run a casual mono white life gain deck and one of my favorite cards in that deck is Martyr of Sands . She usually comes out turn one, gets used turn two, i play Serra Ascendant also turn two, and she's usually a 6/6 flyer. :P Then if i happen to have a Chalice of Life Flip , that goes down turn 3. I'm also running a couple Cradle of Vitality for later in the game.
I like your idea, but i' more looking for creatures that get buffed up from the life like ajani and ageless,n. I have a lot of 1 mana, but need some more of 3-4 , thats why i choose hero of bladehold and kembas skyguard, especially with elspeth, 1 life for each creature
Alright, I will start off with pointing out how I judge a deck's performance in this type of playtest against no opponent.
The deck runs like an Aggro deck. In my personal opinion, that means you should be able to strike lethal by turn 4 if possible. The deck averages on turn 6. I say "by turn 4" because of goblin decks. Turn 4 Reverberate ed Goblin Grenade means only 3 mana, 1 sacrifice, and 10 dmg plus any dmg they've done already. I still hate my friend for that crap.
Picking the right combination of creatures can create fantastic synergy for this deck. My field was almost always full of 1/1s who just sat there to gain me life or would get chumped, or worse: trampled.
Next, disruption. You have only Recumbent Bliss Its a great card for this deck and I wouldn't take it out unless you found something better. However, even an aggro deck should have more disruption/removal. you would go averaging 6 turns...unable to stop your opponent's actions. That's suicide to me. Cards like Oblivion Ring for artifacts, enchantments, planeswalkers, and creatures is excellent for any deck running white. Also, Fiend Hunter , specifically 3 of them, would grant you an unlimited combo that would net you infinite life, as well as blocker/creature removal.
Thirdly, no draw. I had a hand full of cards I either couldn't cast cause were too expensive, or no hand at all to really play with. Mentor of the Meek might be handy in the deck, as would card:Hunter's Insight. Lead the Stampede might help you keep up the pressure..
Fourthly, mana. I averaged around 4 lands a game. I never had much of a problem with getting the right color. I had a problem actually BUILDING the mana up for the higher stuff. Felidar Sovereign is a great card for the deck, but not if he never sees play. Same goes for the planeswalkers and card:Conjurer's Closet. You might want to look into either some mana acceleration such as Vessel of Endless Rest . Or look into swapping the higher cost cards for cheaper cards with similar abilities..
Final Summary: Maybeboard the Felidar Sovereign for ow. Put in some creatures to net your lifegain faster first. 6-8 minimum 'disruption' spells might help, probably don't need more than 4-8 creatures max that grant you life when other creatures enter the battlefield. Use those slots for disruption/draw/useful creatures to net you faster life, increase survivability, and give you gas to keep going.
with Serra Ascendant and Chalice of Life Flip , you pretty much only need 30 life to win. so the faster you get there the better off you will be. so, i suggest that you go more aggro and drop card:Kemba's Skyguard, Serra Avatar (quite expensive), and card:Ajani's Sunstriker and sideboard maybe 2 Recumbent Bliss es for 2 Serra Ascendant , 2 Chalice of Life Flip , 1 Fiend Hunter , 1 of each of the sisters, and 1 Hero of Bladehold .
i also find that Elspeth, Knight-Errant is better than Elspeth Tirel . i say this because i have a lifegain deck (deck:100-life) extremely similar and both copies of elspeth. maybe Overwhelming Stampede for an immediate kill. Garruk Wildspeaker could help with mana too.
Playtest-Round Two!Type: No Opponent
Game 1: Turn 5 Win. You=42, Them=-3Much better on the life gain, specifically due to a combo of Soul Warden + Cathedral Sanctifier . It Really helped bump up to 30+ life so both Serra Ascendant s on the field became 6/6 flying/lifelink.
Game 2: Turn 6 win. You=38, Them=0You only drew 4 creatures, one of which I didn't use. I didn't use it because it was Fiend Hunter was was attempting to count up how much removal you'd pull. You ended up with 1 Fiend Hunter , 2 Recumbent Bliss es, and 1 Oblivion Ring in hand. 3 creatures on field..and tons of disruption/removal. This is what I like to see!
Summary: Deck runs great! xD Only in game 1 did I get a card I couldn't play which was Ageless Entity . In that game you were on turn 5 with only 3 lands. It happens. It was still early game so can't really fault for that. Deck runs pretty strong at the moment. I don't know what to really suggest other than maybe to introduce a card like Honor of the Pure or some similar card(since that one only affects your white creatures, not your green ones)) for cheap that will make your 1/1 life gain creatures become legitimate threats. Bravo! :3
Looks like modern/legacy/vintage to me since it has magic10 in it. take the m10 cards out, it becomes extended. you need only scars, besieged, phyrexia, m12, innistrad, ascension, avacyn, m13 to be standard current. you need innistrad, ascension, avacyn, m13 only for post-rotation standard come october.
Hey man, sorry I didn't comment sooner. Thanks for the reminder, though!
If you want infinite life, a simple way exists to gain it. Phyrexian Metamorph + Leonin Relic-Warder while you have one of the sisters on the field will get you infinite life. If I need to explain how this interaction works, let me know. Suture Priest is another card that lets you gain life for your creatures entering the battlefield, but it also punishes the opponent whenever they play theirs. Finally, Felidar Sovereign will easily WIN the game for you. He gains you life yourself, and after you hit 40, which you should be able to do by the time you cast him, you win.
Game 1 was one best mtg games I have ever played. No joke. You got off to an early start with an Ajani Goldmane and a card:Ajani's Pridemate enchanted with a Rancor .That was when I got the Curse of Exhaustion + Knowledge Pool combo. I was at 2 life because of the pridemate. You could not cast spells. You also had a avatar token from the ajani. A 24/24 avatar. I had an O-ring exiled with the Knowledge Pool and a O-ring in hand. I exiled your Rancor , then exiled your avatar token. Then played a Birds of Paradise . Your turn. You swing with a 4/4 pridemate and a Fiend Hunter and I block the pridemate, taking me one. I'm now down to 1 life and about 15 lands. The next couple of turns is me somehow scrambling up some blockers. That's when the miracle happened. I topdecked a Bonfire of the Damned , hitting you for 14 and wiping your board. My next turn I win with a Door to Nothingness . That was only game 1!!! 1-0.
Game 3 I got mana flooded. I needed ANYTHING but lands and I could have put up a fight. Drew 4 or 5 straight :(. Didn't help that you drew 2x Ageless Entity . a 10/8 Ageless Entity enchanted with Rancor Finished me off. Very close series, but You believe in infinite life? takes the series 2-1 :).
Stampede in your maybe board doesn't fit modern either. Not sure about Felidar Sovereign though, he's usually not worth it if you're running mostly lifelink (simple arithmetic). You have plenty of alternative sources for life gain so he can probably work here with some form of mana ramp. In fact, if you're only using green for Ageless Entity and Rancor and not its mana ramp ability, I'd drop green entirely and just go mono-white. My play tests echo this sentiment:
Play-test 1: Drew Plains, Forest, Forest, and played card:Ajani's Pridemate at T2. Then proceeded to get mana screwed with nothing but white cards and only forests. It wasn't until T10 until I finally drew another Plains.
Play-test 2: Mulligan (2 Forests, Ageless Entity, bunch of white spells). T6 victory with 2 card:Ajani's Pridemate at 5/5 and Elspeth Tirel . Drew that damned Ageless Entity , then didn't get to play him until T6, but had already swung for lethal damage while he had summoning sickness.
In all 3 games I drew Ageless Entity and he was useless in all except the last game. You have 7 copies of weenies that do the same thing, Essence Warden , Soul Warden , and card:Soul's Attendant. If you insist on keeping green, perhaps tweak your mana pool to include more plains and less forests and mana ramp to Felidar Sovereign; about 85% of your cards are white, yet almost half of your basic lands are forests.
Wolfir! is only one of my top decks ;). Game 1 was just to much aggro for you to handle. You also did not draw enough plains, you had a Hero of Bladehold and a card:Kemba's Skyguard in hand. The second Immerwolf finished you off. 1-0
