Maybeboard

Cedh Yisan version 1.1 Extensive play testing in progress with lots of potential card swaps as noted in the updates below.

Less Stax, more aggressive, and higher interaction with the field play testing in progress.

Looks to win by comboing off with Craterhoof, Great Oak Guardian, Staff of Domination, Temur Sabertooth, or Umbral Mantle and infinite Mana.

Any and all suggestions very much welcomed!

Well after extensive game play I’ve come to a conclusion. The deck can be an absolute monster and combo off into oblivion’s very quickly. Key word is CAN. This deck gets absolutely rocked by board wipes and it’s nearly impossible to get back into the game once a well set board is gone. Another observation I made is the majority of the Stax pieces winter orb, static orb, etc. not only don’t slow down opponent’s plans, they make for a gigantic target on Yisan’s head and the board state. To that end, I’ve made some decisions.

Out: Stax pieces trinisphere, static orb, thorn of amethyst, winter orb, and tangle wire. Pure and simple they weren’t doing enough and ended up hurting me more than I can say they ever helped. Becoming a target in a race that Yisan already struggles to run is a death wish.

Out: Dryad arbor, chrome mox, quest for renewal, exploration, burgeoning, and thought knot seer. Dryad arbor suffers from dying setting me back more mana, I’d rather have an extra forest despite the occasional boost for green permanent it gives. Chrome Mox ends up shut down by my own cards, discarded, or in my hand where I can’t afford to exile something I’ve got. Renewal, exploration, and burgeoning while great cards are hard to find and. It tutorable, provide value for maybe a turn or two at best and sometimes end up as dead cards all together. Thought knot seer is nearly unplayable and the ability it does have doesn’t matter enough to warrant a spot here.

In: Seeker of sky break, looming shaman, selvala, ravenous slime, elvish archdruid, greenwarden, and great oak guardian. All tutorable, skybreak provides a backup untapped option if the initial chain gets blasted to hell, selvala provides draw and mana along with archdruid providing additional ramp and power to weak dorks. Loading shaman and green warden provide desperately needed recursion or if played in response to an opponent’s plans, can disrupt graveyard shenanigans as needed. Great oak boosts creatures on demand, provides haste for big turns, and can flash in whenever needed. Additionally as a target for femur sabertooth to abuse he can be his own win on.

In: Swift foot boots, illusionists bracers and 1000 year elixir. Protection for wipes and spot removal for creatures that need it and haste when we need it more. Bracers can get value for yisan or any other creature and elixir provides haste and additional untaps.

Lastly, Ravenous slime is more of a Meta play, there have been lots of graveyard decks running lately and I’m hoping to slow some combos down and get an unblockable in the process. If it proves not worth it there are plenty of other options for the slot it took.

So we’ll see how it goes. I hope the more aggressive and interactive board can make a difference and provide a second chance to combo wins or at least keep us in the game longer. We can’t outrace other decks so I’m not going to try. Slowing down has thus far seemed more painful. More updates to come, any comments and ideas are greatly appreciated!
